What’s most annoying is the simple fact they’re utterly crap.
Penalty would’ve perhaps changed matters. After that it felt like we were chasing for the rest of the game- over/under hit balls etc etc
Bit unlikely for us now I fear but while there’s life there’s hope.

Generally agree, although thought Emil was increasing in attack today. His pass for the Joelinton effort was sublime.
Dubs pains me. He's carried such a load this season, but he does weaken our overall defence

I get last year we over achieved, but this year it definitely feels like we've under achieved. Bring on next season.

What I find bewildering is how well Trippier played last season, he could not put a foot wrong, he was magnificent.
This season is the complete opposite, from the very start of the season it all went wrong and he prorbably would admit he made some proper howlers.
He has always been a bit gaff prone throughout his career. But this season has probably been a perfect storm of overplaying, injury, age and his personal problems. This season is the complete opposite, from the very start of the season it all went wrong and he prorbably would admit he made some proper howlers.
If he never plays for us again I will always remember him for being one of the highest class defenders we have ever had in my lifetime. I’m just gutted we didn’t get him when he was 27.

Long after the gaffs are forgotten, we'll remember that.
And the free kicks against Everton and City.
He deserves to be very fondly remembered.

The only thing we should focus on with Trippier is the fact he signed for us and was instrumental in turning the team around.

Exactly, he was exactly what we needed, when we needed it. He's getting on a bit now and really he shouldn't be regarded as a first choice going forward, passed his best now but he did the job he was brought in for.Long after the gaffs are forgotten, we'll remember that.

It still comes down to the squad. We've missed Pope, Botman, Trippier, Joelinton, Tonali, Willock, Barnes and Wilson for much of the season. We can't seem to get a break from the injuries either which must be concerning as it's gone on all season. Some of the players playing most of our games this year didn't feature at all last year as they were further down the pecking order. It's a season to write off but the club needs to focus on bringing better players in if they want to be around the top of the table.

I think we need Europe. Unfortunately it's out of our hands.
Does 7th not get Europe?GTO-3R said:

FFP isn't actually fair, when it only benefits the 'Big 6'.
Not bothered Villa has it...FFP isn't actually fair, when it only benefits the 'Big 6'.

Sorry but that's just not true. This season is the complete opposite, from the very start of the season it all went wrong and he prorbably would admit he made some proper howlers.
He did indeed have a dodgy spell but up to that point he had been excellent.

About as clear and obvious a refereeing mistake as you'll ever see and nothing. Not even a "go and have a look at this" to the ref..
VAR needs scrapping as clearly not fit for purpose.

Afraid Wilson is a definite move on, he's just too injury prone now, Longstaff has had a poor season but has improved the last two games. Probably a move to one of the lesser Premier clubs he'd shine, Dubs I've been a big supporter of but he was more punch than save last night. Krafth I've not been so sure of but he played well last night.FFP isn't actually fair, when it only benefits the 'Big 6'.
Tripps just didn't cut the mustard last night, maybe it's time for him to move on too. we've Hall & Livramento, Murphy can play that role as can Anderson who is a few years younger. I was really unsure about Bruno G last night. He was going in, winning the ball but then passing to the opposition. Just a bad hair day? Maybe.
There's quite a few sat on the bench, Dummitt, Targett, Richie for instance who would all get a game for a lesser team, surely they'd be happy to move.
I'm still not sure about Botman, he gets a lot of praise but Shaar is a better defender overall, more confident. And then there's Dan. Solid as a rock now back in his rightful position.
Next season we should have Big Joe fit, Willock back??, Tonali, not really sure how good he really is, maybe a quick transfer out too.
So that leaves Isak - great when on song but needs delivery, Gordon a star but the opposition know it and target him. Barnes seems Ok but he and Gordon need to feed Isak more as otherwise Isak goes looking for the ball and he's not there in front of goal when he should be.
There's a lot of criticism of FFP, I still don't fully "get it" but irrespective of the favouritism of it to the big 6, there seems refereeing/VAR favouritism to the 6. Maybe it's just my conspiracy theory but it seems like it. After all that's where the money is and where supporters worldwide, not just England, give their support (financial).
I thought Gordon spoke very well regarding VAR last night. I agree it should have been a penalty and the VAR should’ve directed the ref to have another look. As stated by Gordon, Rooney, Cole and the poster above, the idea is great but it simply has to be reliable and above all else, consistent. If it’s not, it shouldn’t be used at all.

He did speak well, you could see he was angry but he stayed composed. It seems everyone except the Ref & VAR say it should have been a penalty, now I'm not saying there's any conspiracy or bending of the rules here but it does seem odd.
