Evolution - is it real?

It's survival of the fittest within a certain species. So a strong fast cheetah is more likely to live long enough to pass its genes on than a weaker, slightly slower cheetah.
Possibly, possibly not. If both cheetahs are fast enough to catch prey, one of them is carrying excess unneeded muscle mass which does not come free of cost. Fittest is most optimal, not necessarily fastest or strongest.MYOB said:
I'm not convinced by evolution.
There used to be people that were convinced the earth wasn't flat. They were subsequently proven correct.
Nothing is indisputable but I'll leave that to others.
What causes you to be "not convinced"?There used to be people that were convinced the earth wasn't flat. They were subsequently proven correct.
Nothing is indisputable but I'll leave that to others.
What would it take for you to BE convinced?
Have you evidence to show why you are not convinced?
Ir is it just a gut feeling?

Is it because you have spent years researching it and have found holes in the scientific evidence, or is it because you don't really understand it so think it is not true? There used to be people that were convinced the earth wasn't flat. They were subsequently proven correct.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in elements of the theories. Yes, I understand that our legs and spine were not designed for walking upright etc. I agree with some but not all of the various theories put forward by Darwin.
Don't get me started on Newton's theory of gravity
PS. I know PH too well and I'm not going to get embroiled in a debate here. It's not worth it.

Evolution is a theory.
It's not. It's called "the theory of evolution" because when Darwin (and others) first proposed the idea it was a theory.
Over 150 years later, and with much more evidence available, it is scientific fact.
Not only that but when Darwin referred to his 'theory of evolution' he didn't mean 'I've got a new theory and I'm calling it evolution'. He meant 'I have a theory about how evolution came about.'

Darwin's theory is simple and elegant, which bit of it don't you agree with?Dr Jekyll said:

Firstly, the idea that most people believed in the past, the Earth to be flat, isn't true. Humans knew thousands of years ago that it was spherical. There used to be people that were convinced the earth wasn't flat. They were subsequently proven correct.
Nothing is indisputable but I'll leave that to others.
Secondly, you say nothing is indisputable, but at the same time seem to be saying people who didn't think the Earth was flat were proven correct. If nothing is indisputable, how do you know they were proven correct. You are basically saying we can't be sure the Earth isn't flat.
Thirdly, the facts don't care what you believe, and if you're convinced by them or not.
Finally, if you're going to deny something, don't pick evolution or the holocaust. There's too much evidence, and even people who aren't very bright will run rings around you, and make you look like a moron.

In just the same way as gravity, but I suspect you don't need to be convinced of that?
It depends what you mean. If you mean Newton's theory of gravitation, we have known that not to be correct, since Einstein's theory of relativity around a century ago. However I do agree that the attraction we describe as gravity can't really be disputed to exist!

Nice. You equate the theory of evolution by natural selection with the belief that the earth is flat.
You drop ludicrous statements and then say you are not going to engage, but persist in posting on this thread.
I maintain that the original impression is a fair one.
