So pleased for Lando. Long over due. When Croft was banging on about drivers claiming their first GP win in the US, he completely forgot that Bruce McLaren did it at Sebring in 1959

Which made him the youngest winner at that time, and for quite a while afterwards too.
21 yo iirc. Went on to win 3 more. Last Belgium 1968

I am sure it was just a slip up, not the fact he’s never heard of Bruce McLaren.

Welsh and Scottish is the UK anthem same as England and Northern Ireland. We have a few English themes such as Jerusalem.
England is not Scotland, nor Wales.

Get yourself on youtube and check out their anthems, it will blow your mind.
I hate to tell you, but for most sporting events we participate as Great Britain or some sort of variant. They didn't play different anthems when Irvine or Coulthard were winning races, they all got GSTQ. I'll agree that it's a crap anthem though, and IMHO Jerusalem is no better.

Anyway, delighted for Lando. Had things gone his way he could've been a multiple winner already.

He got a bit fortunate with the SC but he'd already made that race with his tyre management early on - something else that Crofty missed. Norris didn't look to be struggling on his tyres at all as Crofty was suggesting, he was just sitting far enough back from Perez so that he didn't damage them.

Also worth noting that Perez's dive bomb at the first corner cost Norris two or three positions. He was going serenely around the outside but got seriously balked when the Ferrari in front backed off to avoid hitting Perez, and went from alongside Piastri to 4 places behind him. The good luck under SC merely offset the bad luck at the start.

Interesting to see what happens in Imola now. I get the feeling that the McLaren is working its tyres pretty hard with the upgrades. Both drivers were making mistakes on the quali lap on softs rather than looking off the pace, but it was the fastest car on hards. I suspect they struggled to keep the softs in the right temperature window.

Derek, I live 2 miles away from the McLaren Technical Centre - I'll send pics of the sign if this actually happens!
Thanks for that. No chance of nicking the sign for me, is there?
Didn't know you had an Evidence Room Derek! biggrin

Brilliant to see Norris and McLaren on the top step. Well deserved!!
The DFV crown came as a gift from a grateful woman. The name plate was less fun. I was at the fans' forum and when it ended I took MW's name plate to one of the staff in the reception and asked if I could buy it. The expressionless chap stared at it, raised his eyes to mine, and said, 'If it's that important to you, sir, I'm sure we could bare the cost.' If it wasn't for the superiority in his voice, it would have been toneless. I wasn't humiliated. I got what I wanted.

I'm sure he has but he so obsessed with stats he often misses out some important ones. I just wish he'd stop quoting stats as most are of no interest whatsoever to many. Actually tbh I just wish he'd stop completely

I can't remember the last time I was so happy for the winner of a GP. I've only just caught up on the race this morning, but that result has set the mood for the rest of the day.

Is it just me, but this weekend at times the Merc has showed it does have some pace in it, but the window to get it working seems very narrow and moves throughout the weekend. In qualifying Hamilton put in a cracking time in Q2, but couldn't get anywhere near it in Q1.

Anyone know where Lando was born ? Local radio saying Bristol, obviously, but I thought it was Glastonbury ? Google seems to think Bristol too though.

Well the upgrades certainly worked. The thing that makes me hopeful that this isn't a one-off concerns the characteristics of the Miami track - hot, slow corners and long straights, all the things that have caused problems for the MCL38 so far this season (and for the MCL60 too).

According to Wiki, born in Bristol, moved to Glastonbury at some point.

Oscar seemed quick with only half the upgrades too

It'll be interesting to see if the car continues to be brilliant on the more race oriented compounds and a bit off on the softs.

Most entertaining race of the season! Well done Lando, what a great drive.
Hopefully more to come from McLaren and keeps RB and Fez on their toes.

Cheers. I must have been mistaken. Derek will be along shortly to confirm I should think.

Until the pitstop, Piastri was class of the field. Once on hards, he seemed to struggle. Perhaps the upgrades had more to do with tyre temperature. Norris was fast all the way through, and seemed to cope with the transition to hards without problems.

Somewhat prophetic piece from Sam Collins at F1TV on Saturday, entitled “Can McLaren’s Upgrades Help Catch Red Bull?”, and going through all the changes to the car in detail.

I think the answer is a resounding “Yes” to that!

Shame McLaren have made a seemingly big PR blunder by enthusiastically hosting Trump in the garage.

Lots of yank fans kicking off BIG time on social media saying they no longer support the team etc.

They released a statement saying the FIA asked them to host Trump but the damage has been done.

Lando somewhat compounded it post race by saying it was 'an honour to meet Trump', 'you have to respect him and his work ethic' etc

Always the negative waves when RB dont win from honda-exige.

It's no different to when F1 raced in Russia and you had Putin front and center glad handing in the room of awkwardness. Calling the bloke a wker or telling him to f-off isn't the way they can go, no matter what they think.

McLaren statement was pretty good, but Lando´s was a big mistake. I am probably not the only one that had the pleasure of Lando finally getting his first win tainted by Lando saing it was a honor to meet Trump.
