Ferrari 512BB Collecting Cars

I do agree that the price difference between the Testarossa and BB was large and consequently hard to justify moving from the Testa to the BB. As a Testa owner (and never having driven a BB) aesthetically I'd still prefer a BB sat in my garage but the Testarossa has always looked unique and that uniqueness is hard to find in any car - there really is nothing like it.
On another note, I agree carbs beat injection!
Looking back at this particular car there were lots of corroded fasteners/screws etc in the engine bay too, which seemed weird to me.
If you pull up behind a Testarossa with it's wide imposing rear end which has such presents. On another note, I agree carbs beat injection!

Even more so with the wider pipes on a sports exhaust.
Not being a lover of red even on a Ferrari but i do love them on the F40 or Testarossa ,
The corrosion on the Boxer probably damp storage, they don't seem to get used a lot.

The new owner will clearly have to spend some money. Have the carbs been set up properly for example? I wouldn't settle for just a recent oil and filter service. Also, I wonder what deeper corrosion their might be. It had a respray and engine rebuild but it wasn't a ground up restoration. Still, plenty of spare change left compared to where the market appears to be for these.

I do think that this was a good deal, I was watching it and it didn’t meet the reserve first time around. As mentioned above, the delta between the 308/328 used to be small, when I got my 328 in 1999 I could have had a boxer for 5-10k more, but the running costs and the very wide seats, strangely enough, put me off at the time. I do still think they are beautiful, though.
When it was listed the second time I might have gone to have a look but it was very far from me to go to take a look on the off chance.
I did also notice that there was corrosion on some small fixings where you would not expect it, such as some of the studs under the luggage compartment. I am not sure whether to extrapolate that to a general malaise but it did make me wonder.
Nonetheless it seemed a bit of a bargain.
I agree this one went for a pandemic price. I remember poking around the Bell conversion one in Feb '20. That also went for a pandemic price IMHO.When it was listed the second time I might have gone to have a look but it was very far from me to go to take a look on the off chance.

Both represent good buys.

Just seen on their insta that DK has put up a LHD one from Belgium for 210k
Yes I saw that one. Looks a nice example with a good history. Pity its a left hooker Doesn't seem to bother owners/drivers particularly, from all I've ever read/seen about driving them.

Just going on the images from CC, car looked like it needed a full rebuild, very tatty round the edges.
That would be eye watering expensive , Best to buy the best you can afford and avoid the stress of restoring a Italian classic unless you have the talent to work on it
yourself and can see it to the end, My hat goes off to Ratarrosa taking the white BBi apart.
Not being brave enough , think i would have been happy with a T-cut and a service
and drive it as it was.
As mentioned before on here attempted that with a Espada ,was a driving car ,
ended up selling it in kit form.

I’d have said the TR is a completely different proposition.
You either want a BB or you want a TR in most cases. They fall under a completely different umbrella……well they do for me anyway.
I’d love a BB but have absolutely zero interest in a TR
I would agree, very different sense of era, especially the carbs cars. You either want a BB or you want a TR in most cases. They fall under a completely different umbrella……well they do for me anyway.
I’d love a BB but have absolutely zero interest in a TR

Or am I missing something?
This car had previously failed to sell at the Silverstone auction in the summer, where it had been given an estimate of £180-210k.https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1979-ferrari-5...

I seem to remember it was on Collecting Cars before, can't remember if it sold or not or at what figure.https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1978-ferrari-5...
If anyone has the time or can be assed to look through the sold archives they may find it,
Could be the new owner has listed it or the same one who put it in the Silverstone auction.
Around £145K seems to come to mind around 18 months ago , not certain about that just a calculated guess from memory.
Not to everybodys choice but being black i think you can get away with the body kit where red maybe a bit in your face,
I quite like it ,a big boys Ferrari for that sort of money

This Boxer was for sale on CC again last week and I missed it. It ended unsold. Anyone any recollection of what the highest bid was?Gassing Station | Ferrari Classics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
