Donington: BTCC & support chat
Discussion
A few observations from today's ITV coverage from DP.
Is it me or did anyone else find today's ITV coverage and the support races at Donington today very poor?
I mean what are Radicals and Legends doing on the support programme anyway - they're minor club stuff at best - this is supposed to be THE premier championship in the UK for goodness sake and I thought the Carrera Cup had moved to the GT calendar?
Seems to me that some high-up palms have been greased with some fat brown envelopes during the close season to make up for the loss of several TBL licence fees...
I know conditions were difficult (and you did not want to get offline at Craner Curves) but so many drivers wanted to be heroes and thought they could win their Championship at the first race!!!! quite pathetic. The number of safety car incidents were beyond tedious....
Fortunately the BTCC races were worth the wait but the rest of the programme was dire....
As regards the ITV coverage, the broadcast personnel have now become VERY stale and are in danger getting embarrasing, Do the drivers really want to be interviewed on the grid by someone who's nevewr raced and is old enough to be their Nan? Why not get Jade to take over?
To the rest of the commentary team, you've had a good innings, enjoyed a very good living for a couple of decades but perhaps it's now time for some fresh faces?
RJ-N spent all the support races constantly babbling with PO'N about chat's he'd had in the paddock with guys no-body had ever heard of rather than delivering factual commentary - very poor.
Come on Steve - up your game mate or your in danger of folks switching off and just watching the highlights on You Tube, simply to avoid the 120 or so mind numbing adverts and repetitive sponsors messages we are bombarded with during the afternoon's broadcast......

I was out when the BTCC race 3 was on and have just settled down to watch it but the recording has cut off just as they were coming around on the warm up lap, grrrr! Hopefully they still do the replay in midweek at midnight or something like that. Thought Jade Edwards was a natural on camera.

I’m sure there’s a fishing thread where they are complaining their program was delayed by the BTCC coverage. There whole program should be on ITVX.

I think they said the highlights programme would be on a Friday night but I assume you'll be able to stream the race on ItvXRich Boy Spanner said:
The Legends are entertaining and personally I like them as a support race. As to whether BTCC is the premier racing series in the UK, that's a matter of opinion and each to their own.
With the loss of Ginetta races, I appreciate they are giving exposure to UK racing series that the general viewer won’t have seen before. ninepoint2 said:

I thought Jade Edwards was really good - she ran with her new role and was interesting in what she had to share.
She showed how awful Alice Powell is
Likewise - not sure if it's her tone, the way she speaks with such authority without having any real knowledge of the cars/drivers she's commentating on (Goodwood Members Meeting for example) or what, but can't stand AP and though Jade did well yesterday. Would be interesting to know if Alice was any more bearable commentating on contemporary series such as those in which she competed. She showed how awful Alice Powell is

I’ve never understood the airport thing, are we to believe planes spray aviation fuel all over the surrounding area?
I know that it used to be a problem in the past...current aviation fuel must to be a lot cleaner.Regardless, there’s still partially burnt and unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust gas. Being that the circuit is directly under the flight path and planes are at low level, some of it makes it to ground level and on to the circuit.
Nobody is suggesting you’re going to see rainbows on the track surface with the levels present, but you definitely get a far more slippery surface than at other tracks for a given amount of rain.

Looks no worse than knockhill last Sunday where multiple grids of club racers managed to have a great day's racing without much incident.
It's the multiple rivers that are the issue. I've never seen Donington (or any other track, including Knockhill) with that many rivers and racing happening. There’s part of the support paddock floods big time, would have been interesting to see it at the weekend!

I've been there on other occasions when it was wet, but felt like any other wet circuit.
