I am not worried about the child, they sleep soundly as you say, else are already awake.

The person effected by the light coming on is the parent who isnt attending the the child, typically, me.

Hence trying to have an easy option for my partner to have good light, easily, without it being too powerful.
Wear a good quality padded blackout eye mask.

We use one of these stuck in a bedside lamp https://www.tommeetippee.com/en-gb/product/groligh...

Red light - I used to use this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Work-Light-Flashlight-Adj...

Has adjustable brightness for the main torch, the side white light and the red side light. It goes quite dim. I used to use it when out walking the dogs so my night-sight wasn't affected too much. With your eyes closed the low red light isn't too obvious if you don't shine it directly at a person.

Another idea - put a wifi dimmable bulb in a lamp somewhere in the room or hallway. Easy to set to 1% brightness with Alexa, even on a timer.

Have you tried using the torch on an iPhone. That's what we used for our two. Just put it on the bedside table pointing upwards.

All good suggestions, currently we are using phone torches, but that's also faff and a distraction if you see a msg/notification.

In the 'my new torch' thread someone mentioned a Nitecore TINI2, some reviews are mixed, but overall it looks good so we've ordered one which should come shortly.

Thanks

Arrived this yesterday afternoon, first impressions where good. They where not wrong about call it tiny!

First night, bloody cracking.
The 1lumin setting is perfect for seeing enough in bed without blinding yourself or others. One button press on and off, holds its setting.

15ln is a nice amount for seeing a bit more, and then if you turn it up you have a full in proper pokey little torch. Plus turbo mode for blinding people.

Winner.

Plus very nice to be able to see not only battery status, but time remaining, on the little screen. Cunning as an ox!

Cheers all!

You are lucky. My wife is fairly even keeled but when ours were little she took the approach that if she was up feeding the baby I was up too. Was (nearly) a killer at first but I got used to living off very little sleep, commuting on a motorbike to a fairly stressful job in Central London.

So much so I rarely sleep through the night now.

We both have a firm view that, when something is hard, the thing to do is support each other the best we can.

At the start, when the feeding itself was difficult, I was up all night too, holding tiny arms out of the way, doing all of the nappies, doing what I could to suggest ways to mimic what worked while the breast feeding support people where helping.

However 10 days in, it was getting to a point she didnt need that support, and I was better placed getting what sleep I could and then holding the baby for an hour or two in the morning whenever she would settle, so my partner could slot in an hour two herself. Then obviously at two weeks I am back at work.

I do all the food, all the nappies when I am awake, including the first one of the morning and bringing overnight oats in bed first thing, but also sleep when I can, and at weekend three, did a little DIY. Four weeks in now. All fed, nobody dead!

Baby is now 2yo. Torch no longer used for that, but it's still friggin awesome, and the low light level is also still good for not ruining your night vision etc.
