I really don't see what the problem with them is. You have to sit and be lectured in exchange for not getting points. Both options cost about the same. t coming out of the preacher's mouth. As you say - they're the rules, which we know before we either decide to speed, or not pay enough attention to our speed. I'm not preaching and like to make progress myself, but I know the rules and can have no complaint if I'm caught transgressing them.
I attended a Smart Motorways Course a few years ago having been caught doing 69 in a 60 on the variable speed limit part of the M5 near Bristol.
The course was run by a couple of professional trainers who worked full time delivering training courses for business groups. They were excellent, friendly, informative and non-judgemental. Went away thinking that it was all worthwhile.

A couple of stand out things about the SAC's I have attended (3 of them) is the fact that most people have little idea of what the speed limits are on certain roads, and the fact most only drive because they have to. Very few drive because they enjoy it.
Oh and they probably don't work as I have attended 3 and can answer all the speed limit questions correctly.

Yes mistakes may well have been made in this case and maybe or maybe not a suspicion of misconduct, together with thousands of other investigations that probably went along succesfully and by the book

I can only tell as I find and my and several others dealings with the PSNI have been less than satisfactory.
I did my speed awareness course on Wednesday, and I have to say that I actually really enjoyed it. I went in person and there were 24 of us, and I found it beneficial. I've been driving 34 years and this was the first time I'd been caught officially(I have been caught going a bit quick in the past, but the coppers have always been really decent with me and let me off), I got caught doing 35 in a 30.
I was dreading going, but the two chaps that ran the course were really good I thought. I'm on a tight rope now as to how much longer I will keep a clean licence though in fairness! One wrong move and it will be 3 points going forward.

Yep - same scenario and I got my first points in 38 years last year. Despite what people say, an SP30 DOES increase your premiums - about 16% on average, so if you’ve got a few high group vehicles it does mount up.
I’m very very careful now.

I did my SAC last December after getting caught at 61 in a temporary 50 limit on the M40, but it's the first time I'd been caught in 47 years so it was probably overdue!
