An Albert Hall double ! I’m there in June to see Puressence, they’ve reformed for one night & it sold out in minutes apparently. They made ripples in the indie scene in the mid 90’s & released 2 absolutely cracking albums. Signed to Island & became a tiny fish in a huge pond. Great live (or at least they used to be) & James has a cracking voice (or at least he used to have). They’ve not played together live for a good few years so here’s hoping it’s a belter.

Public Service Broadcasting in October. Great band, always a superb night out. Seen this lot from very humble beginnings at the Doncaster Leopard to selling out the bigger city venues. Well deserved, talented bunch with plenty of great tunes. Subject matter ranging from Spitfires, Sputnik, Speed Skating & the destruction of the Welsh mining industry.

Looking forward to them both !

Is that Holmfirth or Norwich (or somewhere else)? I’d have fancied seeing them somewhere small, but Ally Pally is my closest of the previously announced shows and I’m not keen on it for reasons only recently shared by others.

@Adam - Prince was the first show I saw at the O2 and was better than any of the others! I saw Madness and The Black Keys there too and both suffered from dreadful sound. Madness was in the round and I was on the floor - it felt like all of the sound was directed over our heads. Black Keys had the stage at one end and it just sounded echoing with overwhelming bass. Haven’t returned and probably never will. The Jubilee line is quite handy I suppose. The smaller IndigO2 is ok (apart from the bar offerings I seem to recall).

I saw Willie J Healey at the weekend - really impressive despite only knowing a few of his songs. He was briefly joined on stage by Jamie T who proceeded to strip down to his boxers before departing again.

Holmfirth. I'm normally right on top of listings for the Picturedome but haven't checked recently. Typical.

What is it you don't like about it, Adam? Size? Site? Parking? Public transport?

I went last night for the first time, admittedly it's on the wrong side of London for me travelling from Bristol, but wasn't too bad getting out, quite well organised. Left the arena at around 10.25pm, was back in Ickenham car park at 11.40pm.
I hate the O2 as well (the millennium dome one as so many venues are O2 something these days!).

I don't like: Size (you can be miles from the stage), Site -It's the other side of London for me, I was unlucky and the tube was closed the last time I went, so it was a nightmare getting home, so add in Public transport (even worse for the last few years as you never know if the trains will run if you book something up for a few months ahead between strikes and landslips) - I no longer go to London gigs any further in than Hammersmith at all, which is a shame as it does restrict my choice somewhat, but I like small venues and there are plenty an hour's drive away.

Jess Glynne at Pryzm was very good a couple of weeks ago for an album launch mini-gig - A nice, clubby vibe to the gig, which suited the songs from her new album well.

Stipe on Saturday.

Getting some VIP tickets to see the Inspiral Carpets in Sunderland on the 9th July. They were great in Newcastle as were the Stereo MC's. Happy Mondays were, eh, the Happy Mondays. Still great fun to see them. Not sure if the carpets gig has even been announced yet but it's who you know not what you know biggrin

69, but thanks for your guess. I'm obviously wearing well. The Clapton concert is my (early) 70th birthday pressie from SWMBO smile

Yesterday I did something pretty epic - two gigs in one day!

First was at a local food festival to see one of my fave bands - the bar stewards sons of Val doonican.

I knew exactly what they would offer and they duly delivered even after a few sound check issues.

Then I quickly drove an hour to the opposite side of the county to see Talisk.

These guys are in the folk category but I can honestly say it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. My description would be Celtic trad on a huge dose of speed!

A fiddle, an acoustic guitar and an accordion should put out the sounds these guys did, the energy was electric, the light show fantastic and the room was pumping.

I was absolutely blown away.

Nice going! Last year I did Ash at Bexhill followed by Muse at the O2 the following night.

So, so excited - added Jimmy Eat World to the list! I saw them at Brixton in 2022 and Miss Badger was supposed to come but she had COVID. They are our favourite band together and she's never seen them, can't wait.

Tesseract - Kentish Town, 23rd February
Feeder - Bexhill, 3rd March
Feeder - The Roundhouse, 28th March
Pink - Tottenham Stadium, 16th June
Jimmy Eat World - Alexandra Palace, 15th November
Lightning Seeds - Kentish Town, 13th December

Were also hoping to get Jimmy Eat World tickets - they are released Friday 10am?

I have just booked some of the extra tickets released for White Lies in July at Earth Hall Hackney. It'l be the 7th time Ive seen them.

Still trying to work out how to fit in Public Service Broadcasting but the UK dates are all across the October school holidays, so looking to see if we can take a trip to Oslo to see them instead.

(We also have tickets for the first 2025 concert booked - Holst The Planets at Royal Festival Hall. A bit different from the punk / rock we usually see. )

2024 is now looking like:

Feeder Roundhouse
Greenday Wembley - 29th June
White Lies Hackney - 5th July
Jimmy Eat World - 15th November (hopefully if we get tickets)
Public Service Broadcasting TBC - will depend on if we get Jimmy tickets

I got tickets on O2 Priority - they were released on Tuesday, as were the Jimmy Eat World mailing list tickets with a code. I'm sure you'll get some, it's not like it's Taylor Swift!

Surprised my wife with tickets to see Elbow in Nottingham.
She knew to take a couple of days off but didn’t know where we were going. Had some time between hotel and gig, booked a table at Cosy Club which I’d highly recommend: tremendous decor and excellent food.

“Let’s just take a walk through Hockley see if there’s a nice pub”
“Where are all these middle aged couples going”
“Look they’re going in there, shall we see”
“Looks like we need tickets”
“Like this?”

Arrived about 1/3 of the way into The Waeve’s set. I’d purposely not looked who the support were so very pleasantly surprised. Great set.

Elbow took the stage at 9 and were absolutely brilliant.
Two hours of great songs.
Brilliant gig.
