Yeah, they're easy enough to drag around by hand although stacking them is easier with a helper!

My dad has cut a section out of each cage at his place to make it easier to reach in and get the logs out - they still seem more than strong enough.

As you say the bonus is no stacking, just launch them in!

Didn’t have a spare tractor today for the log splitter so burnt a tank of petrol slicing some rings into smaller blocks to split later

I’ve got my chain sharpening absolutely dialled in now so very satisfying how quickly the saw slices through these 😈

Yes when I finally worked out how to use the Stihl sharpener it made a hell of a difference, very satisfying as you say.

I came across a guy on YouTube “buckin billy ray” and learnt how to file the chain from his vids. He’s a bit of a character but he certainly knows what he’s taking about.

Almost filled another log store today with split metre length chestnut. Around 14 cube in a 16 cube store. A good deal as I paid for 10 cube and collected it myself.

Agreed. We chopped down a pussy willow (yeah yeah, stop sniggering at the back) at our allotment, as the catkins, just like those in the photo, got every where when they left the tree.

Just dropped off mine and my neighbours ageing Husqvarna and Stihl petrol chainsaws for a tweak and a tune at a place in Godalming only to find they have a Stihl sponsored Open morning with lots of wallet-emptying offers apparently available - I feel another chainsaw coming to join me despite buying a Makita LXT top handle just this week.

I got put onto a beech tree being felled today and the owner gave my brother and I access to it. We filled both our cars and my trailer. Left quite a few knotty pieces behind as they looked hard work to chop.

My wood store is full and I really don't have anywhere to store it all once chopped, but apparently its against the law to turn down free wood!

My neighbour is a carpenter/joiner,he asked me today if I wanted some 'off cuts' of Oak as he had made some doors for a job, of course I said yes...

This is what he gave me .


He then said....I have 2 more sets of doors to make in the next few weeks, do you want the off cuts?

Load of free wood from a tree surgeon keep me going for years with my tiny log burner. Got a fair bit of work still to do but it can sit in there for a while. There is wood hidden all over the house, garage and garden.

had a look on ebay and FB market place and decided it isn't worth the hassle of trying to sell any of the off cuts

I’m building a new large log shed and have been offered polycarbonate or Edpm roof. Which is the better option?

My initial thoughts are that the polycarbonate which is clear will get sun/heat onto logs but that EDPM may last longer…
