Not a chance I would fight.
This isnt a war for the people at all.
Pretty much what I was thinking. This isnt a war for the people at all.
Who am I fighting for? A bunch of incredibly wealthy ‘special interests’?
This war could have been resolved almost as soon as it started, but all of a sudden Boris Johnson makes a surprise visit to Kiev and any notion of a ceasefire is quickly forgotten.
Nah, sod that. I wouldn’t sacrifice my life to line the pockets of a bunch of corrupt, scummy politicians. Let them go out and fight instead, (although that will never happen).

So if it was the UK you'd leave, let the UK be invaded and beaten into servitude for many generations?
You'd profess to be proud to be British and live to be British but abandon our land?
I love my country. You'd profess to be proud to be British and live to be British but abandon our land?
I don’t love our ‘Leaders’
If my fleeing increased the chances of our political classes getting captured and……(you know the rest), then quick, pass me my Nikes.

Even when they're stealing, torturing or slaughtering your children, family and friends? This conflict is pretty unique in modern times.
It's one old goat's delusion with zero interest in reality. Dunno quite how you resolve that from the other end.
As ever Trotsky is relevent - You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.

Thing is when Ukraine is resolved one way or the other can you imagine the reception these people who ran away are going to get returning !
A catastrophic amount of Ukrainians will never return. I expect the men who did a runner will be top of the list, or they'll wait a long, long time before showing their faces again. The emotional fallout once some sort of resolution happens might be even more challenging.

You'll need those Nikes as you'd have to flee across many countries because they wouldn't stop.
Can’t speak for Ukraine, but if it’s anything like this country then no way. I’d be out of it quick as a flash. Even if you weren’t denounced as a far-right racist gammon for wanting to stick up for your country, if you ever made it back you’d be living in a tent, last in line to pretty much anyone else in the world who wanted housing.
If things got really nasty the traditional foot soldier would become redundant, it's not 1945 anymore,
Tanks can be easily taken out from the air with drones controlled hundreds of miles away.
War would be fought with thousands of drones, missiles, heavy bombers and heaven forbid nuclear weapons.
There would be no winners on any side
I hope common sense prevails.

If I were Ukrainian the question is harder. I still think ultimately I would not want to be on the front line as killing people who don’t want to be there either would likely haunt me. My ideal scenario would be to work to help ordinary citizens within the conflict zone. I realize this sounds a cop out but my answer can’t help but be influenced by my career spent exclusively in the third world and partly within conflict and disaster zones. I don’t have an issue risking my safety to help where I can, but very much do when it comes to being told ‘just head that way and kill people’. .
Isn't the point of that you can't pick and choose what you'd like to be doing if enlisted but just get told - go do this whether you like it or not? Unless of course you are particularly well connected or knowledgeable whose palms to grease - in which case you wouldn't be enlisted anyway and some other poor sod was drafted instead. If I were Ukrainian the question is harder. I mean the willful ignorance of this post is incredible. Who am I fighting for? A bunch of incredibly wealthy ‘special interests’?

So the war is basically all Boris Johnson’s fault. Do you hear how ridiculous you sound.

The UK however is no longer worth dying or getting hurt for, betrayed ruined and bankrupted as it has been by countless politicians apparatchicks and others of all political persuasions since the last war.
