Trump isn't the first or only bell end to be in the paddock as an invited guest, he isn't the first political face to be in the paddock, there's been politicians of various levels even giving out trophies at the end of the race. His presence there this weekend isn't actually any different to some of the other delegates making public appearances at races.

Teams and drivers aren't allowed political messages in the cars/overalls, the race organisers don't have that rule to follow so they invite whoever they want. Nothing more to it.

McLaren statement was pretty good, but Lando´s was a big mistake. I am probably not the only one that had the pleasure of Lando finally getting his first win tainted by Lando saing it was a honor to meet Trump.
That's very disappointing from Lando.
Whether you support Trump or not, he is a former US President.

I’m sure that Lando is just respecting the office, rather than the person.
The McLaren statement reflected the point that you make. Lando´s went much further and IMHO was a mistake.

It's always perplexed me with Trump, he always seems to have the most awfully cut and fitted suits, surely he has access to some of the finest tailors and stylists (but then look at his orange makeup!) in America and he looks like he's purchased a cheap and I'll fitting off the shelf suit.

It's like Simon Cowel with his boot cut jeans, always wearing them and yet they are just so wrong for his size and shape, yet I think he wears them to cover his heels!

Rishi Sunak is the same, so is Boris Johnson, and Jeremy Corbyn had to be dragged kicking and screaming through the tailor for one brown suit! On the other hand David Cameron has the best tailor of the UK politicians, Tony Blair did as well, and Starmer looks okay. Yes it’s astonishing that so many politicians can’t go and get decent suits made, and that we the public seemingly don’t care too much about it, especially if they are seen as a bit off-the-wall or rebellious types.

Wasn’t that long ago that we had the CEO of F1 sat in the stands next to Putin. Ecclestone still expressing public support.

Trump is abominable but let’s just keep some perspective. It must be mad to win your first F1 race and have the experience of the former POTUS in the garage, and all the entourage, and the man himself congratulate you.

Norris is pissed too, remember. Probably dehydrated to within an inch of his life and then drowned in champagne biggrin

I wonder which one of them smelled worse

Let’s put down Lando’s statement on the matter down to naivety and leave it at that.
Maybe he's a Trump fan?

Red Bull aren't invincible! Well done Lando, Well done McLaren. thumbup

If Perez had taken out Max at the start the win for Lando would be less special because Red Bull weren't in the race. Being ahead of Red Bull on the track makes it better, safety car or not.

See what happens at Imola. I suspect Red Bull had unusual issues with tyre management in Miami. Like after Singapore, I expect them to bounce back.

Shame McLaren have made a seemingly big PR blunder by enthusiastically hosting Trump in the garage.

Lots of yank fans kicking off BIG time on social media saying they no longer support the team etc.

They released a statement saying the FIA asked them to host Trump but the damage has been done.

Lando somewhat compounded it post race by saying it was 'an honour to meet Trump', 'you have to respect him and his work ethic' etc

Make McLaren Great Again!

It's often/always a cultivated look: shabby - designed to appeal to "the common man/woman"; smart, well tailored - designed to appeal to the "upper echelons, or wannabes". It's all about the voting metrics.

Anyways, really pleased for Norris & McLaren, great to see them all on the up.

Pleased for Lando, he deserves a win but its taken him way too long.
He is a talented driver and has a good attitude (IMO) but he should have left McLaren years ago.

He is "doing a Button" IMO and unless some similar miracle happens to Lando that happened to Button he is probably not going to see many more wins tbh.

Now is a certain designer was to find his way to the orange team....

Just my 2ps worth.

Pleased for Lando. Sounds like Max had floor damage which maybe explains the genuine pace difference. Hopefully can continue to challenge him on merit though.

I didn't know about the floor damage, was that from wen he made the mistake hitting the bollard?
