Most unlikely car for a learner?
Discussion
I learnt all those years ago in a Cortina 1600. Day before test I had a lesson, got to turn right at a difficult T junction top of a hill. Geoff my instructor said " It's clear you've the biting point nicely, just go." Or words to that effect.
To which my reply was that I'd let the clutch pedal fully out. Yes clutch slipping. Lesson abandoned.
Geoff says don't worry about the test I'll get it fixed or sort something.
Next morning he turns up for a pre test run in a Cortina not his school Mk2 but his Mk1 which was rally prepared, knobbly tyres, sumpguard, cage, Cibies the lot.
At the test centre the examiner Mr Kaye called, my heart sank, known to be a stickler, failed Mum twice.
Didn't drive particularly well I thought, resigned myself to a fail. Went through the Highway code questions. Staggered when told had passed.
Thanked Mr Kaye and announced was sure had failed due to, like an idiot, pointing out some goofs. He just smiled and said if Geoff trusts you with this then I know you'll be Ok.

As for driving schools, one local school uses a Hyundai i30N…
Hyundai N driving school cars must be a thing... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Noticed that for the last few weeks a driving instructor around my way has been using an I20N.
Probably the coolest car any driving instructor uses to give lessons!
Remember taking my GF out when she was learning to drive in my remapped Golf GTI MK7 to help her pass which was an experience lol.
Anyone else seen any cool learner drivers car?

Can always remember a mate in the mid 90's learning to drive in 7 series and an XJS.
I learned in a 528i E28 BMW, it had a slippy diff in it and I used to get it sideways on roundabouts with my dad egging me on. I had a MK2 escort lined up as my first car and he wanted me to be able to handle it in wet.Gordon Hill said:
Depends on where you live, I reckon Dubai would have some interesting ones.
Yup. Emirates driving institute do a platinum course. G wagen, Range Rover, cayenne, Tesla y or bentayga. They do the same for bike lessons with ducatis. It’s illegal to teach in anything other than a driving school car though, so the silliness is capped at that. No Chiron’s on L plates.

I learnt to drive in my dad’s 3.5l Rover SD1 and then used to borrow it once I passed my test. Also managed to get a speeding fine after failing the police attitude test.
A few years later when my dad changed his car, he discovered that a mistake had been made and I wasn’t actually insured to drive the car.

I was due a lesson the evening before my test but I got a phone call saying the car (an Escort) had been written off in an accident. To which my reply was that I'd let the clutch pedal fully out. Yes clutch slipping. Lesson abandoned.

The day of my test he turned up in a rally preped Horizon. It was so different to drive that I failed miserably.

I remember Dad demonstrating how to do a J-turn. I tried it in a nearby farmyard and reversed my car at speed into a wall. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
