Good luck Dave.

Fingers crossed for you.
Cheers Dan beer

I'll be ringing Classicline again just in case they've changed their policy re. garaging, otherwise it'll have to be Lockton whatever the price if I want to do the track days I have planned...

Part of the advantage of the 981 and 718 GT4 is that any trackday damage could most likely be repaired within the 10% trackday excess ... add to this the insurance costs and you choose the repairer ?

This is where the carbon fibre and cosmetic frippery of the later GT3's and GT4RS really works against them, at Porsche prices.

I know panel beating and filler isn't fashionable and I would be gutted if my original paint ever became unoriginal, but !!

I must say, this is turning out to be quite an eye opener.

Direct Line, for example, have a tick box for all factory modifications, upto and including met paint, ppf and stickers. It's not just roll cages and PCCBs.

I wonder how many policies are at risk because of undisclosed metallic paint!!

I completed a quote, listing my full spec - SORRY, WE ARE UNABLE TO QUOTE FOR THIS VEHICLE.

Mainstream insurers and Porsches can be a problem as you've discovered.

I did a LOT of research last year and the best options seemed to be ClassicLine, Liverpool Victoria, NFU, Lockton and Mannings.

The most expensive insurance you will ever buy is with a company that doesn't want to pay ...

Yep Twinfan, same names came up for me and I stuck with Lockton. However they are using Aviva as the underlying underwriter and, as I could not see my list of mods on the latest policy, I emailed them to remind them of the previous declared ones.

My NFU guy (who insures the landy and mini and our smallholding) told me the new line of attack is DVLA info - ie if you have wrapped your car have you remembered to submit the colour change; capacity change, have you submitted if not some insurers walking away too?

Thx for the nudge. R

Been ringing around most of the day and never expected it to be so challenging to find a reasonable quote for a 718 GT4. I'm 50 years old and thought the days of crazy premiums were behind me! Struggling to get below a £1000 on a drive overnight and everyone demanding a the tracker enabled.

Locktons, Mannings, ClassicLine, NFU, LV, Porsche (carbon)... Waiting to hear back from AIB.

Any other suggestions?

Most will want it to be garaged/securely stored indoors overnight.

Understandable, although i'm not about to throw the current residents out for the GT4. The old stuff won't fare too well outside in the rain... Still, I've been surprised by the premiums when I've had equally powerful sports cars insured in similar conditions and half the price with far fewer restrictions.
First world problems!

Just wanted to give an update for those who may be looking based on my experience over the last few days.
All companies have demanded a tracker because I intend to leave the car outside on a driveway. It is in a good area however.
The more expensive ones have been Locktons, AIB and Porsche/Carbon. None of them include any trackday cover.
Mannings made it very clear that they deem too high risk with a quote if £3700 because the car is not garaged.
Finally, the current choice is between NFU or LV with traditional vehicle policies or ClassicLine/ERS with a restricted 5k mile policy, but does include trackdays.
Reading customer feedback is not great on ClassicLine/ERS, but I really want to do a few trackdays this year (whole point of buying the car). Also, note that the policy is non refundable if you need to cancel early.
LV/NFU seem to have better feedback but means separate (and costly) trackday insurance or self insure.
Hopefully that might help.

That's really useful - Classicline will cover you for the car non-garaged? I've been told for two consecutive years that they won't cover me unless the car is garaged. I guess that could be postcode dependent though.

If you're a member of Porsche Club GB Lockton will cover you under the PCGB scheme and cover PCGB track days (only).

Yes, non-garaged, but could well be the area as you say, but definitely needs the tracker.
A lot of my friends run with another trackday company so want freedom beyond PCGB events. I did look at PCGB trackdays last night out of interest and most of 2023 is already sold out.

Cool, thanks again for the info. I have the tracker active on my car so I'll hassle Classicline again when my renewal comes up. I'd like to do some non-PCGB days if possible but I'm not prepared to do them without insurance.

PCGB track days sell out in a handful of days once released. They're incredibly popular.

The only concerns I have with Classicline is the feedback regarding their support when something goes wrong. Sound like they will just step back and pass you direct to ERS with little support. However I do appreciate that people tend to only write when something goes badly/wrong. Potentially plenty of happy customers too...

Re classicline and ERS is that who they’ve proposed as an underwriter?

I’m insured via classicline and was proposed to First Underwriting. Classicline do as per the policy wording seem to want all cliams directed straight at the underwriter. So worth checking who the underwriter is and how well or badly they resolve cliams.

Curious to know, for those who have renewed or switched insurance providers in 2024, what are you paying?

My insurance is due at the end of March and I'm expecting something ridiculous based on what friends have had to pay for their non-Porsche vehicles.

I paid £850 to insure my GT4 in March 2023.

I have just changed my insurance on both my 718 Spyder and 992 GT3 badly planned both up in the same month.

I changed the Spyder from Churchill who would not offer a renewal quote (no claims / convictions) not sure if they stopped sports cars or over certain value or my age 71, to Bank of Scotland (Liverpool Victoria) last year £485 this year £540. Excess £1250

My GT3 is now with Locktons previously ClassicLine, last year £1250 this year £1550. Excess £2500.

Hope that gives you an idea.

Cheers Geoff, I appreciate that. I have it in my head that quotes are going to be circa £1500.

I've got friends who own BMW's and Merc's and their premiums have gone through the roof.

My other half who drives an Evoque has been hit pretty hard as well but that could just be because it's a Range Rover.

Are the new quotes on your GT3 and Spyder subject to tracker being activated?

Thanks.

Yes for the GT3, No for the Spyder
