Noticed this question blowing up on social media recently:
Alone in the woods at night, would you encounter a completely randomly selected man or a bear
The majority of females surveyed responded a bear.
I had a look around various forums and such as well as asking a few female friends this myself and was surprised that was their answer too - to me this is a bit of a shock of just how badly men appear to be perceived by females - perhaps I’m out of touch or something ! (Unless people just aren’t scared of bears at all!)

Just shows that most people’s perception of risk is poor. I’m pretty sure you’d be fine with 99.9% of men. Not sure the same could be said of bears. That’s in terms of likelihood of something bad happening.Alone in the woods at night, would you encounter a completely randomly selected man or a bear

In terms of impact, pretty sure most people would rather fight a man than a bear…

I think the point is that the bear is just likely to maul you to death, which while incredibly unpleasant, doesn’t really compare to the physical and psychological abuse a man could do.In terms of impact, pretty sure most people would rather fight a man than a bear…
Bears just kill. Men torture, rape and kill.
I can see exactly why women would take their chances with the bear.

I can see why people on Facebook might say that, in my experience of people walking past each other in the woods is a nod or a smile is the most likely reaction.Bears just kill. Men torture, rape and kill.

Haven’t got any experience of watching people walk past bears, but pretty sure they’d be more scared…
I read somewhere that the bigger bears don’t really have to compete with other amimals in the food chain taking their meal and, therefore, they just eat you. Whether you’re dead or alive at the time is of little concerns to them.
Is the average man, or the female perception of the average man, really that bad that getting eaten alive is preferable?

Trying to find statistics. Global deaths from bears each year seem to be less than ten. That probably reflects relative lack of interaction between humans and bears. Is the average man, or the female perception of the average man, really that bad that getting eaten alive is preferable?
I can understand why women voted as they did even if statistically it doesn’t make sense.

If a man comes after you, you stand some chance. If a bear comes after you with intent, your chances are considerably lower.
Never go into bear territory with someone you can't outrun.

It’s the fact that most women (not men, the answers will be very different for men) would prefer to take the chances of just being mauled to death over the chances of what a random man could do to them.
If you can’t understand that then I assume you don’t have a wife/daughter or have ever been in contact with anyone who has been through the psychological torment of being raped.
A bear isn’t going to rape you, or possibly then go on to torture you whilst taking pleasure from that before maybe finally killing you, there’s a chance that the random man in the woods might want to do that and with that slight chance, women would rather risk getting dismembered by a bear, I completely understand why.
This might be worth a read if you're open to considering why some women answered as they did.

Plenty of sensible stuff there, and this is a serious issue which deserves better than the clickbait 'Man or Bear' nonsense which just implies that the respondents were asked a misleading question or genuinely have no idea of risk.https://www.port.ac.uk/news-events-and-blogs/blogs...
It states that 30% of women suffer harm at the hands of men in their lifetime. That's bad enough without the melodrama, but let's think about it. Those women had interactions with men every day of their lives.Few of them led to assault.I don't know how many women have had even one interaction with a bear, but it will be vanishingly few. If every woman in the world encountered a wild bear as often as she encounters a man, then there might be a useful comparison. And probably few women left.
