Overview

We love it when manufacturers make souped-up versions of their everyday cars. It's modding done properly and whilst a lot of models naturally lend themselves to being fettled for improved performance, some cars arrive a little more from left field and are arguably more exciting because of it. Cars like the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG for instance.

Still being produced today the original Mercedes-Benz A-Class arrived in 1996 and was a bit of a departure for the German auto maker in that it was a rather unassuming front-wheel drive, entry level compact that, how shall we say, had a few issues with staying upright. 

Despite its top heavy tendencies, however, the A-Class would continue on but it was the third iteration, introduced in 2012, where things would become a little more focussed. Now sporting a larger and sleeker hatchback aesthetic it's at this point that AMG would join the party and turn the humble A-Class into a fire-breathing bag of fun.

Arriving in 2013, the AMG-fettled A45 featured a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing the best part of 380bhp, which when combined with Mercedes' 4MATIC all-wheel drive system could propel the A45 from parked to 60mph in just four seconds.

Face-lifted in 2015, it's the limited edition Petronas model that really stole the show though. Commissioned by the factory that same year to celebrate Lewis Hamilton’s F1 championship win, just 30 of the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG Petronas Edition cars were ever built and featured revised styling and increased performance, as well as a whole host of upgrades.

This particular car – one of just 15 UK examples – comes to market with over £8,000 worth of factory optional extras and more than £4,000 of modifications, including the SA Tuning Stage 2 package that ups power to  441bhp.

With just 24K on the clock as well as full Mercedes comprehensive service history (not to mention 60 hours of detailing work and machine paint correction) the car presents in exceptional condition throughout and would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
