JAGUAR E TYPE LOW DRAG COUPE
In an effort to meet the new GT race regulations for the following year, Jaguar’s Malcolm Sayer created a new roof line for the E type in 1962. The result was the creation of three ‘Low Drag’ coupes that used the same roof panel but each looked slightly different. The interpretation of the improved roof together with input from three different race teams resulted in three different looking Low Drag Coupes.Probably the best known of the three bore the registration number CUT 7. The second car is known as the ‘Linder Nocker’ but the most efficient shape was created on 49 FXN, the fastest of the Low Drags driven by Peter Lumsden and Peter Sargent. Inspired by the aerodynamicists Frank Costin and Sammy Klat, with suspension and engine mods by Playfords, the car became very successful winning the Coupe de Paris at Montlhery in May 1964.
This car (924 FXC) was created from a 1962 FHC by Classic Car Racing, and carefully mirrors 49 FXN with a hand built aluminium monocoque and body by leading specialist Rod Jay of Racing Jaguar Panels. The light weight alloy engine was built by David Butcher, one of the finest Jaguar engine builders around. It utilises a light weight alloy block which together with other alloy components saves a massive 45 kg from the front end. In its current configuration the engine produces just over 360Bhp at 5800 RPM.
The car has been built to the FIA appendix K regulations and meets the minimum weight for the class of 920Kg. Driven by Paul Castaldini and prepared by Classic Car Racing, the car has already seen considerable success over the years, in HSCC’s Guards Trophy and the Jaguar Classic Challenge. This has included competing at the Classic Le Mans meeting and the car has a guaranteed entry for 2021.
The Low Drag was completely stripped and re-painted in Aston Martin Green, then carefully rebuilt to its original specifications, all service items were carried out providing a car that is ready to run in the 2020 season. The car has undergone considerable investment over the years and now boasts a CCR close ratio straight cut gearbox with Quick shifter. A full and detailed specification sheet will be available to the next owner with build and set up specifications.
This is a competitive car in the right hands and is only on the market as the result of a change of plans by the current owner. Sensible offers or trades will be considered for a car that is offered at well below the build price.
