Austin Seven Ulster Replica

Austin Seven Ulster Replica

A lovely Austin Seven Ulster that has been built to a very high trials specification by Steve Hodgson of the highly renowned SMH Services, actually his own car so way beyond the norm, insomuch, he's gone to town both on the engineering and mechanicals and has raided his 'special bits' box too, making it both highly competitive and desirable.
•Standard 1929 chassis, 2 wheel brakes
•Shock absorbers all rebuilt with new discs and bushes, rear are adjustable
•1929 front spring with rears being 6 leaf with extra thick bottom 3 for stiffness, thus stronger for trialing
•Totally rebuilt system with 'Gunn' Ali cast Ulster steering box, lengthened column to give extra legroom
•Gurling from set up on hand brake
•Austin rear brakes with cast iron drums all round
•Uncoupled brakes specifically chosen for trialing
Rear Axle
•Totally rebuilt with new 5.625:1 crown wheel and pinion
Gear Box
•1928/30 type with low 1st gear for hill climbing plus shortened later prop shaft
•1929 type (sand cast) pressure fed nose and 1 1/2" crank/rods
•Slipper pistons and ported block with large inlet valves, skimmed cyl head (hi comp) with 18mm plugs, tuned 4 branch outside exhaust
•Block and head have 10 studs holding them down, studs 9/10 are back and front of block
•Oil pump is a Paul Bonewell Anuless type with modern oil filter system
•Cam shaft is a trials type as re-profiled by Paul Bonewell.
•Rebuilt SU 1 1/4" carb
•Lightened flywheel and sealed rear main bearing later type clutch levers and thrust release body
•New rad core 'V'
•Fuel system is 4 gallon pressure fed through large brass pump on drivers side of car
•Rod Yeates Ulster type
•Steel panels down both bottom edges of floor to body area for strength
•Staggered seating to enhance space, so passenger sits closer to the rear of the car
•Both battery and fuel tank along with tool box in rear bulkhead to aid weight distribution
•0-10 pressure gauge on dash board for reading pressures
•Front screen with pram hood plus bespoke interior
•LED lights, together with a beautiful period illuminated 'STOP' sign
The car has loads of power and stops very well, so would be ideal for road use too. The Seven has only competed two small trials and about 300 miles since its total rebuild and won the best in 'replica class' at Beaulieu last year. A really super Seven that's completely ready to actively compete or one to simply enjoy on the road.
