JAGUAR XJS HE Ultra Rare Colour 1981 - Immaculate
1981 Jaguar XJ-S XJS 5.3 V12 HE - UPDATE - Went straight through the MOT today with no advisories. MOT tester said it was the best rust-free example he had ever had on his ramps.
Tax and MOT exempt next year.
Gold, Had the same owner for 32 years - 55,454 miles but this may go up slightly as I am currently enjoying the car. Ultra rare colour only made for one year. Biscuit interior is unbleached due to it being sat in a garage for 32 years and not being bleached from the sun. Original period radio cassette, drivers pack with service history. The car drives perfectly, no leaks, rattles or clunks! Seamless gear changes, with bags of torque as you would expect from the V12, which is a bullet proof engine and has stood the test of time.
The service history shows that the car was owned by the first keeper for just 1,200 miles. I think the car was a dealer demonstrator but cannot be certain (but the Jaguar guys on the forum say it was most likely). In the history file is a beautiful hand-written letter from the second owner to the third, dated 15 June 1984 (see attached). This letter confirms that he had the car until 12,000 miles and only sold it as because at the age of 72 he found it difficult to get in and out of.
We can only assume that the third owner did not keep the car long as that October the car was sold to Mr Soo who lived in Surbiton in Surrey. Mr Soo kept the car from October 1984 until the summer of 2017 when he passed away. Sadly, for the last decade of his life Mr Soo wasn't well enough to drive the car and it just remained in his garage - apparently, he just could not bring himself to sell it.
Bizarrely, Mr Soo's house was sold with the car still in the garage and so was then taken over by the new house owner. (The V5C confirms this by showing the same address for both people.)
There the car sat for a short while longer until one of the neighbours enquired with his new neighbour what happen to the lovely old Jaguar. He was very pleased to learn that it was still in the garage where it had lived for the last 33 years and offered to get it running for them. This saviour, John, then spent a small fortune getting the car up and running: I have spoken to John the neighbour and can confirm the list that was required to get the car up and running again.

I have receipts for all of this work (£5k) as well as an original service book with a good number of service stamps from the car’s early life. The oil is clean and fresh, all fluids are where they should be and there are no leaks.
A dealer got hold of the car after this and concentrated on the physical appearance. There was some very minor corrosion starting around the arches (way better than most unrestored XJSs of this age) and it wasn’t bad at all. However, the whole paint was lacklustre and flat, due to it being sat in a garage for years. There were quite a few minor scrapes where things had been placed on top of the car.
Because the car is solid underneath they planned to just repair the paint and scrapes, and the minor wheel arch corrosion, however, it all got out of hand and they ended up repainting the whole car as well as fitted a few new replacement trim pieces. MOT expired on the 3rd July and I have put a fresh one on it.
This car is tax and MOT exempt next year as it becomes 40 years old. This Jag is well known in JOC, and it was a perfect car to take to the Jaguar XJS 40th Anniversary in September this year.
Please call for further information and to have a chat. Based near Heathrow. This is a very very reluctant sale..
