1992 TVR Griffith 4.0L Precat
For sale is my 1992 TVR Griffith 4.0L precat. I recently purchased this car as a bit of an impulse buy to possibly replace my 390SE though I have now decided to keep it and sell the Griffith instead as they both offer a similar experience (also thinking I could put the money towards a house deposit).
The previous owner had it since 2003 and has looked after it. He has also undertaken a few upgrades throughout his time with the car.
-Twin radiator fans so the car runs nice and cool even in warm weather.
-Front suspension rebuild with adjustable Gaz shocks, poly bushes and having the front section of the chassis stripped and painted whilst this was done (this is partially visible in the engine bay photo).
The overall condition of the chassis is quite good, which is one of the main reasons I purchased this car.
When I went to view the car I had a good poke around the outriggers which I can confirm are solid however they are showing surface rust however this would only require going over them with a wire wheel/ sandpaper then a coating of POR15 paint to get them back to new condition. (Extra photos can be provided upon request). I haven’t done this myself as I didn’t want people to think I was covering anything up to sell the car.
The bodywork does have some stone chips however this aside it looks great, it goes from looking relatively subtle in some lights to vibrant and metallic in others. One of the plastic headlight covers has dropped and would need to be put back into place but I may get around to fixing this before the car goes.
The roof is overall presentable and at a glance looks great though there is a small tear on the removable targa panel about the size of 2 pound coins side by side. I have given the rear screen a quick treatment with some plastic revival product and is definitely better than when I purchased it but would benefit from a good clean and polish. It would look almost new with a little time spent on it.
The wheels are the later ‘500’ style with very good condition matching toyo tyres all round.
The interior is original and holding up well, it looks smart in dark blue, the seats are slightly creased due to age but are not ripped or cracked, the leather is still soft and they are very comfortable for longer journeys.
To drive, the car is very direct being a non power steering model and feels very tight handling wise. The gearbox has a nice short throw and doesn’t grind. The car has done a couple of longer journeys in the time I have owned it - its surprisingly comfortable and is happy just to cruise at motorway speeds all day long.
Overall, this is a straight, useable and almost completely original example at a fair price.
Viewings are strongly recommended to appreciate the condition of the car and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask, I can send more detailed photos upon request. I am based in Grays, Essex.
I have tried to be as honest as possible throughout this advert and whilst being overall well presented, it isn’t perfect so please be realistic when enquiring.
