The bodywork is best described as near as possible perfect condition.
As the car was supplied through the main dealer network and received standard preparation to rectify stone chips on the front bumper, spoiler. However this deeply irritated my Father as it was OK, the prep work down to a price, it had been repaired using water-based paint, so the match was acceptable, but under a particular light, you could tell the 'grain' and colour were slightly different. Unless you looked at it and studied it you would not tell. But he had the bumper, bonnet and wings bare metal painted in the 'original factory cellulose' at his old school paint shop for a perfect match. The all-important under bonnet factory production stickers remain intact. I would say it's better than the factory finish.
After the paint had hardened and settled for a few months, the whole car was treated to a deep paintwork treatment, clay bar, cut to remove swirls, and a polish with a ceramic treatment. I was sceptical myself because of the cost, but the result was stunning like glass. The whole car was deep cleaned and detailed. Then put into exercised storage. The term mint is overused, but this car is near this by definition.
The car is always garaged and used on days and not in the wintertime, clean and chamois leathered and fitted with a bespoke cover.
The suspensions in fine order, no clonks, or play or vagueness. No uneven tyre wear. Geometry is critically important to the way a 996 handles and this was checked regularly.
In excellent condition, no rattles, or smoke. The engine always warmed carefully and warmed down after driving to avoid 'oil bake' on the hot turbo bearing.
Time or mileage serviced.
There are no IMS bearing issues with this engine as this is related to the ultra-durable Le Mans GT2 class race engine. Well maintained, these engines are incredibly durable, and 250,000+ miles is not unheard of.
The manifold bolts have been checked.
Any hint of an oil leak the engine and box were removed, new gaskets.
The Turbo actuators have been replaced with better quality forged items.
A sensible DMS map to 520BHP, which has made the power delivery more linear and according to my Father has improved by 2MPG, he is 76 and gets up to 28 MPG!
A new starter motor, the existing one was getting sluggish.
Brand new battery fitted today! (5-year warranty)
In excellent condition. Fresh clutch and dual-mass. The gearbox was rebuilt by the main agent with new bearings under the Porsche Extended Warranty. The milage is minimal since.
These have been upgraded to 997 Turbo items; they are a step forward and a worthwhile upgrade. The car has cover 200 miles since.
The radiators have been replaced as a precaution and always checked for road debris, leaves. The engine has never had any sort of cooling issue and preventative efforts made to avoid the risk of a cooling issue. Many 996 suffer from neglect with wet leaves being allowed to gather in the radiators, and 'rot' the bottoms of the radiators. Many cars have had damaging cooling problems due to this type of neglect, warping the block and heads, which is not easy to pick up.
Wheels and tyres:
The wheels were in good condition by there were a few blemishes. So there was a full bare metal refurbishment, carefully bead blasted, then layers of plant applied from a black primer, then up to the original silver factory finish, stoving to ensure hardened durability.
Brand new correct factory specification Pirelli P-Zeros have been fitted. The car has covered 200 miles. The tyres hold pressure and are rotated in storage to avoid flat spots.
All work as they should not error codes; the battery always kept on a conditioning charger.
In excellent, clean, condition with without any noticeable wear. The car has benefited a deep clean and detailing.
All functions work, including the air condition (cold as intended) as intended.
Why is it for sale then?
My Father then brought a 997 Turbo S, and it's not really used. The intention was I was going to buy it off him as it's such a good example, I just did not get round to it. The car has extensively recommissioned by my fathers private mechanic Porsches. Everything is perfect, the paint, the wheels are unmarked, the tyres brand new.
If you want a car with "no question marks" then this is one for you. If you want a cheaper car "with question marks" you could quickly shed ££20,000 on a shiny horror getting the car up to this mechanical and cosmetic standard. In this sense, this car represents better value for money for £5k more than an average car. Trust me, I have inspected a few for friends.
You are welcome to view the car by prior appointment.
The car is listed on Ebay.
