1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL LHD
We love these cars here and always try and find reasonably priced examples so how about this? This is the perfect entry to Pagoda Ownership, it is a 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL, Left Hand Drive, Manual, finished in Silver with Black Interior and coming with both Hard and Soft Tops. Our car is a US Spec Example, spending most of its life in California. She is beautifully restored to an extremely high standard and represents amazing value in the current market. She needs final Shaking down and fettling before daily use but is half the price of similar examples!
Introduced at the Geneva Salon in March 1963 as replacement for the 190SL, the 230SL is a landmark model which founded a sports car dynasty that would prove an enormous commercial success for Mercedes-Benz The 230SL abandoned its predecessor's four-cylinder engine in favour of a 2.3-litre fuel-injected six derived from that of the 220SE and producing 150bhp. An instant classic, the body design was entirely new while beneath the skin the running gear was conventional Mercedes-Benz, featuring all-round independent suspension (by swing axles at the rear), disc front/drum rear brakes and a choice of four-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Top speed was in excess of 120mph. The Mercedes-Benz 230SL was owned by countless film stars and celebrities, becoming one of the iconic sports cars of the 1960s, and even managed a debut competition victory in the Spa-Sofia-Liège Rally. Christened 'pagoda top' after their distinctive cabin shape, these SL models were amongst the best-loved sports-tourers of their day and continue to be highly sought after by collectors. Although controversial at its introduction, these SLs are now considered a masterpiece of design. These roadsters also have one of the most beautiful bodies produced in the 1960s. Thanks to their robust inline-six and their luxurious Mercedes interior, they are wonderful cars to be driven and enjoyed. This model is now extremely sought after with restored examples regularly fetching over £100k and sometimes, especially specialist restored examples, well into the £200k arena.
Our car is an interesting proposition, restored to a very high standard in the last couple of years in the most desirable Colour Scheme, Silver over Black. The Hardtop is also Silver and fits nicely. The quality of the work is apparent and the under bonnet detailing is beautiful. All the work has been carried out but the car now needs shaking down post restoration and final fettling undertaken. She is under half the price of similar examples as we expect to sell her within days, not months. Summer is not that far away!, this is the only 230SL, in a nice restored condition, in the perfect colour scheme that we could find anywhere near this price. She comes with a little bit of US History going back to the Eighties but very little history other than the UK V5, so all EU taxes have been paid. Please be quick.
