EXTERIOR
This beautifully elegant 993 Targa can’t help but attract admiring attention where ever it is seen.
The special order Turquoise Metallic, factory code – L25D, chosen by Porsche themselves, for this exhibition and display example, totally enhances the 993 design, highlighting every detail perfectly, from all angles.
Often described as the best looking of all 911’s, the 993 has always been much admired, from original inception by Englishman Tony Hatter to present day. Noted from the rear view, by the distinctive full width reflector with subtle Porsche lettering incorporated. The paintwork gleams with a deep and consistent shine across all body panels. There is no evidence of any corrosion or annoying car park dents to be found, even around the more vulnerable and common areas.
All lenses are free from discolouration or crazing. Presents over-all to an extremely high standard, and a credit to the previous owner’s careful stewardship.
INTERIOR
The quality and high standards continue when entering the 993. Special order Marble Grey leather covers the front seats, and with matching floor carpets, the cabin feels light and fresh, creating a pleasing contrast against the dramatic exterior. The leather remains taut and pleasingly free of scratches or creases, but retains a suitable patina. Both front seats are still supportive and firm, while the rears have obviously seen very little use at all. Switchgear, in both appearance and operation, is in excellent order throughout. The black leather steering wheel sits proudly in front of the classic, driver focused 911, 5 dial dash-board, with central rev counter. Headlining, and door cards, with their practical storage panniers, are all un-marked. Other features include, cigarette lighter, sun-visors with vanity mirrors, and as new Porsche over-mats which have protected the light grey floor mats and carpets.
WHEELS & TYRES
All 993 Targa’s were up-graded to Aluminium Silica Magnesium 17”inch Split Rims, code M393/M495. This particular set, are in superb, as new order, having just been totally restored professionally at great expense, including all bolts and nuts, (which have been painted the correct black to match original designs).
Tyres are all matching Bridgestone Potenza S-OZA , and of course, N-Rated. Having only been fitted at 80,378 miles, as expected, all four displaying minimal wear and an even tread pattern. 205/50 ZR 17 (89Y) Front, 255/40 ZR 17 (94Y) Rear.
The gloss black Porsche brake calipers are in good condition, with cross-drilled and ventilated brake discs and pads having considerable wear left.

THE DRIVE & ENGINE
The 282 bhp flat six, naturally aspirated sohc 3.6cc engine, is accessed, in this instance, via the six speed manual transmission, considered by most to be the best option.
A light alloy sub-fame, coil + wishbone, with an all new multi-link suspension improved the driving experience over the out-going 964 model. Other improvements included dual flow exhaust with twin catalytic converters, larger brakes with drilled discs and a revised power steering.
Being a more desirable Varioram example with 20% more torque at 5000 rpm mid range power and acceleration is a marked and noticeable improvement on previous models.
Quoted performance figures are, as you might expect, impressive, with 0-60 mph achieved in approx 5.4 sec, 0-100 mph in 12,4 sec, and a top speed of 168 mph, so certainly no slouch, even by today’s standards. However, you may struggle slightly to achieve such numbers in reality of course.
Steering, suspension and braking all seemed to perform effectively during our Test Drive, as did the engine, which starts readily and delivers plenty of urgent performance. Having enjoyed such diligent and regular maintenance over the years, this delightful Targa continues to provide the touch and tactility that typifies the 993 chassis and set up.
A glorious way to experience best of both worlds, roof down, open driving, and to fully appreciate the un-mistakable sound-track of the Air-Cooled, manual 993.
Strongly recommended.
