BMW 319 Convertible, restored and revised example
We have a wonderful and more over rare Drauz body BMW 319. Only 51 BMW 319 were given a Drauz body. The BMW 319 was a very fast car in its day. Some BMW historians believe the 319 formed the basis later for BMW Motorsport. It was a proper wolf in sheep’s clothing. Whilst 45Ps may not seem a very much to us now, it was an almighty amount in the 30’s. Besides its power it also had the benefit of a rather well constructed chassis. Thanks to these attributes roadholding was quite good and better than many of its British counterparts. This specific example was found in Denmark, where it had been extensively restored and mechanically overhauled. The car is therefore in excellent shape. The lovely bodywork sports nicely thin ad correctly aligned panelwork. The paintwork is good with only minor signs of use. The quality inside the car is second to none and has developed a lovely patina. The condition of switches and instruments is fine and is in good working order. The car is propelled in good BMW fashion by a straight-six 1.9 litre engine developing 45 Ps. Weighing only 750 kg you can readily understand it was a seriously fast car for the 30’s. The engine runs silky soft with the large bore affording a pleasant suppleness. The 4-speed manual gearbox works well and precisely. The excellent maintenance level is very much in evidence when behind the wheel. The stable roadholding has quite the contemporary feel. The recent attention to maintenance will offer many more miles of pleasurable open-top driving. The BMW 319 belongs to the “ they don’t make them like that anymore” category. A wonderful and very rare BMW 319 in exceptionally fine condition!
