With little over 2k miles under its belt this fantastic and rare Supersprint presents beautifully in handsome Dijon Blue. The 60s inspired racing livery really adds to the sense of occasion, this car also finished with a number 5 roundel proudly denoting its production number (out of 60). With classic touches like the cream steel wheels, stainless rear wing guards, polished side exit exhaust, and Le Mans style grille, this undeniably charming example remains in exquisite condition throughout. Factory options include the full windscreen with Mohair hood and sidescreens (in lieu of the standard Brooklands aero screens), lowered floors, rear wing guards, twin seat Mohair tonneau cover, etc.
The car’s impeccable condition continues inside. The unmarked seats are upholstered in supple Scottish Muirhead leather with a quilted stitched finish. The rich Innes Tan colouring is a perfect contrast against the dark exterior hue, and extends from the seats to the dash, side panels, and sidescreen armrests. The attention to detail is quite simply stunning with occupants treated to an array of period-inspired details such as the Smiths dials, ornate battery cut off switch, and of course the wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, all impeccably presented. The seats are equipped with 4-point racing harnesses and the dash is complete with the car’s unique numbered build plaque (No. 5 of 60).
The turbocharged Caterham Works Racing-tuned three-cylinder engine punches out 95hp and 82lb-ft of torque, which is really quite respectable for a car weighing just 490kg. Beneath the lightweight aluminium bonnet the engine bay of this particular example remains factory fresh. The car received its first service in July 2019 at 1,032 miles and was serviced for the second time in July 2020 just a few hundred miles ago.
The Supersprint sits on 14-inch steel wheels finished in cream for a truly classic finish; all are perfectly presented with no curb marking to report. They are shod in the factory-specified Avon ZT5 tyres that have seen only 2,330 miles of use.
The Caterham was first registered in January 2019 and is number 5 of 60. Its first service was carried out in July 2019 and the second in July 2020, both at Williams Caterham in Bristol. The History file is complete with the Supersprint spec sheet, Caterham invoices and health checks, the owner’s handbook, and the Supersprint presentation box complete with the leather pouch and spare key.
