Lotus Motorsport Elise Racecar - Honda S/Chgd
Motorsport Elise race car with supercharged Honda CTR conversion pushing out around 380HP. Fantastic race car in superb condition with terrific race pedigree, build quality and provenance. One of three cars built by Lotus guru Gavan Kershaw together with his father David, back in the early 2000’s, originally for the Autobytel championship and subsequently for GT Racing. Gavan was for many years lotus's principal vehicle dynamics engineer and considered by many as the 'face of lotus'. I purchased the car from Gavan Kershaw racing back in 2004 and have owned it ever since having great success myself racing this car in a number of different championships over the years through to 2010. The car has numerous class and outright wins in GT Cup, Britcar, Mid Engined Sports Cars, LMA Euro saloons & Sports cars, Dutch supercar challenge, Northern Sports & Saloons amongst others. Must have upwards of 30 trophies and much as I would like to take credit I suspect a lot of them were down to the outrageous performance of this awesome car!
After initially racing the car with its original motorsport derived K series scholar engine, I had the Honda S/C conversion carried out (at significant cost!) by specialists Maidstone Sports cars in Kent and have subsequently spent a further fortune maintaining and upgrading it over the years (must have spent well over £100k excluding the original cost of the car!) to its current incredibly well sorted specification.
Throughout my time racing the car it was professionally prepared, run and maintained by specialists Plans Motorsport in surrey, who have an excellent reputation and plenty of racing success in their own right.
Basically the car has been dry stored for the best part of the last 10 years since I stopped racing. Was recently given an overhaul, including full check over and partial respray at the cost of several grand to make sure its in tip top condition.
Lotus Motorsport Elise built c. 2000
Honda Civic Type R 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine (K20A2) engine conversion with Jackson racing supercharger, JDM high lift cams, pro-alloy charge cooler and accusump, putting out a rolling road verified 330 hp at the wheels (circa 380-400 hp at the flywheel depending who you talk to!)
Genuine bespoke racecar with full motorsport elise construction, specification & body panels, long roof scoop, fully integrated Safety devices roll cage, firewall, stack dash, light weight fuel cell etc etc… ( ie. this is not just a converted S1 Exige)
Honda close ratio Six speed manual gearbox and Quaiffe Limited slip diff.
Ohlins two way adjustable coil over suspension ( adjustable for bump and rebound)
AP racing brake kit (four pot front) and rear with performance friction pads
adjustable front anti-roll bar
Tullet stainless Exhaust
Set of Original Rimstock alloys in white
Set of black Speedlines - ultra light weight magnesium
Couple of sets of pirelli slicks and wets
Corbeau carbon fibre race seat with 6 point Luke harness
Momo quick release steering wheel
Electronic Plumbed in ‘Fire Sense’ fire extinguisher and engine cut-off
Lexan lightweight front windscreen
Plenty of other stuff I have probably forgotten!
Performance? Well with around 500HP/ tonne its flippin fast! Conservatively speaking 0-60 sub 3 and 0-100 sub 7. Car weighs somewhere around 800kg.
Lap times from memory, Oulton park 1.45, Donington full circuit 1.36 (I think that’s about 1.10 on the national circuit but don’t hold me to it) the old Silverstone international circuit 1.27. Anglesey full circuit 1.30.
No doubt a long term appreciating asset, especially with Lotus announcing the permanent discontinuation of the Elise and Exige. A pretty Unique and rare race car and an Incredibly reluctant sale but realistically I just can’t see myself racing it again and there is no point in keeping it forever moth balled as its a thorough bred race car that deserves to be raced. The car does have a chassis number so in principle it could be road registered if you were clinically insane!
