Z Cars Classic MINI Honda VTEC K20 powered, newly factory built (cost over £50k).
Here at Quick and Big Ltd we are privileged to be able to offer to the market, three Z Cars Evolution factory built, high octane, turn key Classic Mini, Resto Mods.
We have an example of each of the three different iterations of the Z Cars Classic Mini formula:
- A Mid Hayabusa engined, Quaife gearbox, rear wheel drive, very high performance example.
- The front Eco Boost engined, front wheel drive resto mod classic.
- And this Z Car, a mid Honda K20 VTEC engined, rear wheel drive.
Z Cars was originally founded by Chris Allanson in 1999, harnessing the engineering creativity that had helped bring Chris considerable success grass track racing.
The company quickly established a following and began to build a brand predominantly around the Classic Mini, offering a range of alternative engine kits or turn-key solutions in a mid-engined layout most notably around the R1, Hayabusa and Honda K20 engines.
Z Cars developed a reputation for one-off creations be it a restomod Classic with modern underpinnings or something bordering on the extreme, such as the twin Hayabusa Turbo engine Ultima.
Chris Allanson stepped away from Z Cars in 2012 retaining the rights to the kits and Z Cars Performance Engineering (ZCPE) was formed to assume the mantle acting as custodian for the Z Cars portfolio.
Regrettably late in 2015, the company ceased trading leaving a void for the existing owners, customers and fans of the brand.
The rights to the kits have now been sold to David Rose, a long standing customer of Z Cars and a new company has been formed now based in Ashford, Kent.
David’s new company (Z Cars Evolution) intends to support existing customers/owners, whilst re engineering and adding to their range.
Z Cars Evolution staying true to the high octane extreme Z Cars heritage, whilst offering new levels of refinement, safety, technology, and potential everyday usability. The 3 examples we have for sale are all products of this new Z Cars Evolution ethos.
The stunning, fully rebuilt example listed here, offers the modernity of a Honda K20 VTEC mounted amidships, this factory built example is not only a track day warrior, its fully trimmed and useable as extreme daily driver.
It is now available to view. To have a Z Cars Mini built to this spec by the factory would cost well in excess of £50k. Beat the waiting list, and save over £20k, whilst being the first owner since completion.
In common with the Hayabusa engined Minis, the K20 is also an updated version of one of the founding Z Cars adrenaline fuelled models. The K20s are found in the Honda Civic Type R in EP3 (2001 – 2005) and FN2 (2007 – 2011) guises. The K20 in this high spec example, had completed 95k in its donor car, and has been fully serviced, including replacement cam chain and water pump by Z Cars.
The K20’s high revving capability is seen as having some of the aura of the bike engine variants, without some of the compromises. Whilst the power peaks @ around 210 bhp at circa 7400 revs for the standard EP3, they redline nearer to 8k rpm.. However with a rolling road session, the engine can be mapped to deliver over 240 bhp, with peak power over 8k with some Civic Type R owners having the limiter set at 8750. There is a huge tuning scene for the Honda VTEC engines and over 350bhp is a Supercharger away.

Many thanks for wading through our lengthy description, we believe it’s better to describe our cars fully. It is not in our interest to waste your time or ours, with inaccurate or incomplete descriptions.
Our as new, factory built, K20 powered Z Cars Mini, really does tick all the Quick and Big Ltd boxes, it is great value, very quick, beautifully presented, and unique.
Importantly it doesn’t come with some of the compromises associated with extreme track focused “weekend“ cars, ie, it is potentially usable as a daily driver, rather than being left to languish in the garage from one MOT to the next!
Please visit the photographs again as they form part of the description (there are many more online at Quick and Big), familiarise yourselves with our terms and conditions (also online at Quick and Big)and contact us via Piston Heads or by calling Peter on 07860691960, to arrange a viewing / test drive by appointment. Any inspection is welcome. Part exchange particularly if it’s quick, big or unusual a pleasure.
