Volkswagen Caddy Maxi 4Motion / 4x4 Overland Micro Camper van Campervan Swamper T5 T6

A stunning and comprehensively converted / modified Volkswagen Caddy Maxi 4Motion 2.0 TDI 16v 6 Speed Manual Overland campervan conversion in bright Blue with no VAT to pay and a long MOT.
I bought this as a van and have spent much time and money turning it into my dream overland camper / Swamper. I wanted it to be usable as a daily driver but it also has to be able to head off to far away places at the weekend with the tough Haldex 4x4 system giving me more options as to where to go and helping me out of any sticky situations such grass parks at festivals or camp sites. No getting stuck leaving a muddy festival or country show car park with this van! It is very rare with only just over 200 of these vans in the U.K. and has the desirable and high torque 2.0 16v TDI engine rather than the more common 1.6 unit that is known for having fuel injector issues.
Everything works as it should with no noises, smoke, smells etc and it drives beautifully with no slack or wear anywhere. Being the top of the range 16v engine option from new it pulls strongly and is very refined, helped by the extra sound deadening and an insulated Touran engine cover that helps reduce engine noise even further. The gearbox is slick and easy to use and the overall suspension, steering and bushes are in great shape. The clutch and dual mass flywheel are also brand new and have just been replaced so nothing to worry about there for many years to come.
The specification includes Remote central locking with alarm, Front fog lights, Comprehensive trip computer, ABS and ESC stability and traction control, Daytime running lights, Intermittent wipers, Twin sliding side doors and sporting front seats. It also has a tow bar with full electrics.
Since I bought it I have added a set of dark gunmetal grey genuine VW 15” 6 Spoke Alloy wheels which have been fitted with brand new General GA Grabber 3 tyres which include white lettering. This combination gives it a tough off road look but remarkably the tyres are actually quite quiet and do not have an adverse effect of fuel economy (I'm averaging 45mpg) Elsewhere outside there are also custom wheel arch extensions and bespoke custom decals to both sides and the rear to support the off road aesthetic as well as high quality black roof rails. It was originally owned by Scottish Water so has been well looked after and was also electronically limited to 70mph from new. I have now had the van remapped to remove this as well as the VW dieselgate software flash removed as this can often cause damage to the fuel injection system.
There are also extensive upgrades to the exterior lighting to make driving at night safer especially in remote areas. I have fitted a high quality LED dipped and main beam headlight kit to provide great visibility and a more modern, higher specification style which is complimented by an upgraded set of daytime running lights, again powered by high quality LED’s. I have fitted a new premium sound system including a new head unit featuring USB / iPod and Aux connections. It sounds fantastic, helped by the extensive sound deadening and insulation measures that are included with the camper van conversion. The conversion has been professional installed by Freedom Conversions who have extensive experience converting Caddy’s to this high specification. It’s referred to as the stealth camper conversion as there is little to no external evidence that it is in fact a camper and not a van.
Both sliding side doors have been modified to incorporate opening privacy glass panels and integrated shades are also included. Core to the conversion is the high quality rock-and-roll double bed / twin rear seat that is finished in tough and durable yet comfortable black leather type material that is equally comfortable to sit or sleep on. The large high quality LG LED television is supported by a powerful satellite system and folds down when it use and provides excellent picture quality. The interior is beautifully insulated and carpeted and includes USB sockets, warm LED downlighting, a leisure battery and a full ambient / mood lighting pack that can be changed to be a multitude of colours. Extensive storage is also included and the whole conversion has been exceptionally well thought out and executed and works really well. A special bracket has been fitted on the roof so an awning can be easily fitted should the new owner want this but is invisible if they don't intended to use it.
The bodywork is in great condition with minimal dents and no corrosion anywhere. When I bought it I immediately got it onto a ramp to check its condition and was delighted to find no corrosion or damage underneath. It had clearly been looked after since new (I'm the second owner on the V5) When I got it I had it fully checked over and serviced using Bosch filters and the correct Shell Helix fully synthetic oil (nothing further due for at least another 10,000 miles and even then it will only be a minor oil service) The cambelt and water pump were renewed at the same time as well as the rear brake discs and brake pads. A new clutch has also been fitted in the last 500 miles. With all this work done it runs brilliantly within nothing further needing doing. It has done a genuine 116,000 miles from new which is low for one of these. The engine is also very common as it is shared with the Audi A3, VW Golf, VW Passat, Skoda Octavia, Seat Leon, Audi A4 etc so spare parts are easy to find and cheap to buy.
I have loved building and using this camper, it has turned out better than I’d dared hope and it’s usable in a large variety of environments, also being helped by its raised ride height meaning better ground clearance. Being lower than more traditional van-based campers means it can also go on ferry’s / Euro Tunnel as a standard car and not a commercial vehicle and it also fits in low-rise car parks where head room can be an issue. Simply put you can take it anywhere a normal car can go for no additional cost. It drives just like a MK7 Golf in fact and enjoys long motorway cruises in complete comfort.
It is fully HPI clear, averages an easy 45mpg of standard diesel and is much easier to drive day-to-day and park than the bigger, heavier, thirstier and slower T4, T5 or T6 Transporter based Camper vans. It also comes with the two original remote flip keys and a collection of bills and receipts for the work done.
Viewing and inspection is available is Cheshire and if you have any questions please feel free to ask and thanks for looking. and thanks for looking.
