Roadster: Open Two-Seater
1952 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster
Right Hand Drive: Open Two-Seater
The XK120 Roadster was launched in roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a test bed and show car for the new Jaguar XK engine. It caused such a sensation which persuaded Jaguar founder and design boss William Lyons to put it into production. The "120" in its name referred to its 120 mph (193 km/h) top speed (faster with the windscreen removed), which made the Jaguar the world's fastest standard production car at the time of its launch. To meet demand it was necessary for the mass-production versions, beginning with the 1950 model year, to have pressed-steel bodies, but retained aluminium doors, bonnet, and boot lid.
Our magnificent example #660995 was supplied new on the 28th of July 1952 to Raul S Cruto e Silvavia Gundle Ltd. in South Africa. Residing in South Africa until 2003 it was then imported into the UK to its then and current owner. Beautifully maintained and documented since, including extensive works carried out in 2008, the car today is resplendent in its original exterior colour of black with the rare half spats with steel rims. Accompanying the car is a history file, handbook and original complete tool roll. It should also be noted that a peddle box adjustment has been carried out to accommodate the taller driver.
This sensational XK120 Roadster is presented in magnificent order and now available for immediate inspection at our central London showrooms.
