Having resided on Japan’s unsalted roads since new, this 4-litre Wrangler remains in excellent order throughout. Being a Sahara Edition it comes equipped with body-coloured wheel arch flares for a sleeker, more modern look while still retaining that classic Jeep aesthetic. The Bright Silver metallic bodywork presents to a great standard all round with only a few minor paint imperfections to report on close inspection but certainly nothing untoward for the age or mileage. This example further benefits from a removable hardtop, which is perfectly presented.
The simple Jeep interior presents in very good order throughout. The grey and black cloth seats work well with the exterior paint scheme, and all remain in superb condition, especially at the rear where the seats appear to have never been sat it. Being really picky there is some very light marking to the fabric on the driver’s seat, but other than the upholstery looks superb with no wear or damage to any of the bolsters. The dash, fascia, and centre console also retain a fresh appearance with no marking or discolouration from the sun, and even the original CD head unit remains in place. Another nice touch is the leather-trimmed steering wheel equipped with cruise control, the only negative to report here being a small amount of wear to the outer rim.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The Sahara's 4-litre straight-six starts up first turn of the key and idles smoothly up to temperature. The engine bay is very clean and tidy, not overly dressed but in excellent original condition with no signs of any rust, damage or previous poor repair. The car additionally boasts full service history with 12 service records accompanying the original maintenance booklet. The last service was carried out in Japan in March 2021 at 74,234 miles (119,469km).
Equipped with the upgraded heavy-duty Dana 44 rear axle, the mechanics and 4x4 system of the car all work as they should. The automatic ‘box is surprisingly smooth and handles the engine's power perfectly through the gears. Since arriving with us the car has been fully inspected and freshly MOT’d at the current mileage for the new keeper’s peace of mind.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The Wrangler sits on its factory 15-inch Ecco alloys in excellent condition throughout. They are shod in a matching set of Hankook tyres with plenty of tread left at each corner. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition, stopping the car quickly and in a straight line.
First registered in Japan in March 2006 this cracking 4.0 Sahara Edition has now driven just 74k miles from new. It has only very recently landed in the UK with all taxes and duties paid on entry.
