1999 CORVETTE C5 TARGA IN SUPERB CONDITION
For sale is a beautiful 1999 Chevrolet Corvette C5 in gleaming silver with black leather interior and carpets, owned by an avid classic car collector and enthusiast. This is the very desirable and attractive targa design, with the roof lifting out and stowing in the boot whenever the weather allows.
The car is a very rare Japanese import, benefitting from the salt-free roads and favourable climate and having clearly been exceptionally well-cared for all of its life. Since, arriving in the UK in 2016 the vehicle has had only 2 owners, with the current seller having driving it regularly during summer months during his 3 years of ownership.
When not in use, the car is kept dry at all times, benefitting from storage in a dehumidified “Carcoon” throughout winter. As a result, the bodywork remains virtually unmarked and presents beautifully in metallic silver – a colour that perfectly suits the flowing lines of the C5 design. The original factory wheels are equally good and are virtually unmarked. The tyres, while retaining good depth of tread, show signs of age and would benefit from replacement in order to extract the maximum performance from the car.
Mechanically, the car performs exactly as it should, with exceptional power delivery through a 4-speed auto gearbox, coupled to an amazing soundtrack from the 5. 7L V8 engine under the bonnet.
The active suspension, head up display, windows, climate control, memory seats, CD changer and other electrics all function as they should, with the single exception of the air conditioning which requires addressing owing to a faulty AC pump (the owner is happy to have this replaced for £500).
As part of preparation for sale, the owner has recently invested in a check over (September 2021) from renowned specialists CCM Vettes, with any minor faults addressed including fitment of a new window regulator in order to rectify a ‘noisy’ driver-side window and adjustment of the handbrake cable.
Documentation, receipts and service history are mostly present, including a number of documents and service records dating back to the car’s time in Japan (very unusual for a Japanese import). The original vehicle manuals (in both Japanese and English) are also included along with a tailored Concourse Eclipse car cover (worth £180).
Inside, the dash, centre console and door cards are completely unmarked and the gaiters are new. The seats are also in exceptionally good condition, having been protected by seat covers throughout current ownership, with no tears, scuffs or marks anywhere to be seen. Only the usual creases in the leather give away their age. The carpets and foot mats are equally good.
The mileage is modest (although as any Corvette owner will note, mileage is not a reflection of reliability or care) and the car has benefitted from careful but constant use to keep everything operating as it should. Overall this is a very nicely presented C5 and is only for sale owing to the owner thinning his collection to make space for new projects. The price at which it is offered reflects the condition of the tyres as well as the unfortunate timing of the sale (given current fuel prices and the oncoming winter).
The owner would be happy to discuss the car in further detail to prospective buyers and additional photos are available on request.
