I am selling my 1991 Alfa Romeo 75 Cloverleaf 3.0 12v. I have owned the car since 2016, it is currently on 78600ish miles but may go up as i do use the car now and then since completing. Personally i think the vehicle is in great condition considering its age and Alfa Romeos reputation for rotting as soon as they rolled off the production line :)
It has a full service history with main dealers up until May 2010, which I believe is when the owner at the time passed away and the car was left sitting since. This Alfa 75 was maintained by its owner and originally purchased in the UK then imported by the same owner to Jersey C.I.
I was then offered the car and seeing its condition considering it had been parked for so long, I just felt it deserved to be saved.
The car was running (barely) when I took delivery of it so I decided to start by making sure the body work was up to scratch. I removed the body kit and surprisingly found the whole car to be very solid, with the exception of the rear arches (badly corroded, but not as bad as some might think). I had a friend cut all of the rust/rot from the vehicle and weld in new metal, giving the body its rough lines back. It then went to a body shop for filler work and to have the rear quarters and behind the rear bumper re-sprayed. I also replaced the cracked door handle rubbers. Both headlights had corrosion, the right has been replaced with a new item and the left was reconditioned the best I could and re-sealed. the rest of the paint work is still original, it does have some blemishes and small marks as you would expecty from a 28yo car. The vehicle is also water tight and dry inside, interior is also in great condition.
Now that the body was up to par I started work on the engine and chassis. I started with the rear end thinking it would be easiest. I stripped every suspension and braking componant from the vehicle, cleaned and sprayed the arches, A frame and some chassis componants with hammerite (arches done with waxoyl after paint), then replaced all bushes with polyurethane items, new -40mm springs with shortened AVO sport dampers, replaced both rear calipers, new discs and pads, replaced the brake pipe with a steel flexi from master cylinder to calipers, brake master cylinder, replaced fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel pump, clutch hose (steel braided), clutch slave cylinder, gearbox/diff oil, all prop shaft donuts, hand brake cable and twin pipe sport back box.
The front chassis recieved much of the same treatment, every suspension bush was upgraded to polyurethane, avo shortened sports dampers, torsion bars positioned to lower front 35-40mm, new discs, pads & front caliper accesory kit, steel braided front flexi hoses, front inner arches cleaned, sprayed with hammerite then waxoyl, track rod ends, steering rack gaitors, wheel bearings, bottom ball joints, drop link bushes. I also decided to fit new wheels and tyres, now it was lowered the wheels seemed to disappear in the arches so I fitted set of Lenso BSX fronts are 7.5x16 et19, rears are 9x16 et25 with Maxxis Victra sport VS01 tyres.
I then set about overhauling the engine and ancillaries, I gave it all new fluids, replaced t/belt, w/pump, converted the hydraulic tensioner to a manual, had the p/steering pump rebuilt, replaced s/plugs, cam cover + s/plug tube gaskets, all inlet hoses replaced, all major radiator hoses, crank sensor, oil pressure sensor, coil, drive belts, all service filters, thermostat and thermostat housing gaskets.
There is probably lots of little things I have missed out that I have fitted or done to the vehicle, but the car is running and driving as it should. A couple small things I would mention (all cars have them) is the brake pedal does travel a bit further then I would like but the brakes do work (just being honest), I will get it to work and re-bleed them when I get the opportunity see if this helps. I will also underseal the rest of the vehicle as I have not done this yet but was also in no real rush, the car isnt driven in the wet and the underside is in very good condition prior to undersealing it. Tachometer also needs calibrating, possibly replacing, unfortunately i couldnt find anyone local to test it. Being as honest as possible.
I have priced this very fairly considering the rarity of these cars these days and what they can go for, not forgetting the time & money I have spent on this project , especially a RHD road registered 3.0 v6 you can turn key and drive. Im selling as I need to make a step on to the property ladder sooner rather then later and unfortunately cant warrant keeping the alfa, nor do I have somewhere dry to store it for another 10 years :(
If like me you are a true car enthusiast, then you'll appreciate the work completed to date.
I forgot to mention vehicle is still located in Jersey, but could be re-registered in the UK no problem if required.
