A short video of the car is available on our YouTube channel.
Intro / exterior
Here we have a lovely, early example of the 996. We are very fond of these early cars as they make the driver feel involved due to being light-weight, basic in the way of spec, and cable throttled. The coachwork is finished in the classic 996 Arctic Silver (paint colour code L92U) and is in superb overall condition. The car is perfectly straight across all panels and there are no unpleasant scratches or scrapes to note other than some very minor marks to the bumpers that we did not deem note-worthy enough for a bumper respray. We have treated the 911 to a soft headed machine polish and hand wax and this really demonstrates the fabulous condition of the paintwork, which has a finish like a mirror. We have had the "turbo twist" style alloy wheels professionally refurbished in the original silver and the four tyres fitted are Bridgestone Potenzas with lots of tread.
Within the cockpit is a Space Grey (dark grey / blue) leather interior that has worn its years very well. The seats look fresh, with no sagging or damage and only minimal wear to the drivers side bolstering. The carpets and headlining are all beautifully clean, the dash and door cards are in nice condition and everything electrical works exactly as it should. There are three keys with the Porsche; two remote fobs and one regular. As has been mentioned earlier, this particular example is a very basic specced car, which is something we and a lot of our customers prefer, as it leaves a more analogue and involved sports car. The only noteworthy optional extra is the incredibly sought after limited slip differential. The optional extra codes read as follows: 220, 222, 224, 421, 650.
The 911 is in superb mechanical condition and is fantastic to drive. As noted earlier, being an early and basic model, the Porsche is light-weight and therefore nimble in the corners. The manual gearbox, cable throttle and limited slip differential give a real sense of driver involvement, which is a satisfying feeling to the person behind the wheel. The 3.4 litre flat 6 has a smooth idle, a crisp rev and tremendous power. It is free from any leaks, smoking or abnormal noises. In 2013 the exhausts have had the popular "Gundo" hack carried out and this produces a wonderful, sporty sound track. The Porsche goes through all six gears smoothly, has a light clutch with a good biting point and the brakes are in good condition, stopping the car powerfully. The suspension feels tight with no untoward noises emitted and the limited slip differential makes the car feel lively and great fun through the bends.
A comprehensive servicing record is with the car, made up of the fully stamped service booklet and a file filled with paperwork detailing works that have been carried out over the years. Within the file is also paperwork such as all the MOTs, HPI certificates and other miscellaneous documents such as the original Porsche sales invoice from 1998 for £65,000. There is also of course the original Porsche leather wallet containing the original manuals and hand books.
The service intervals are as follows: 15/04/1999 - 4,330 miles, 04/05/2000 - 8,125 miles, 29/03/2001 - 11,607 miles, 16/05/2002 - 16,597 miles, 21/08/2003 - 22,083 miles, 05/04/2005 - 27,881 miles, 18/05/2006 - 31,419 miles, 17/01/2008 - 41,107 miles, 15/10/2009 - 47,520 miles, 07/01/2011 - 49,933 miles, 17/10/2013 - 62,562 miles, 17/02/2016 - 81,152 miles, 07/02/2020 - 85,126 miles.
As detailed above, the Porsche has just undergone a minor service while in with us and will also come with a fresh MOT. In addition, the car has undergone the following prep work while with us; Gundo exhausts removed, refurbished with seams professionally re-welded and refitted with new sleeves, interior alarm monitor replaced, alloy wheels refurbished, mirror covers removed and resprayed, new number plates fitted, new bonnet struts fitted, full body machine polish and hand wax. Other work carried out in recent years includes things such as replacement driveshaft, starter motor, alternator, wheel alignment, radiators, header tank, MAF sensor, battery.
