Optimate or Battery

Had the car from new and have always had her on the optimate with no problems over the last 9 years, but now after about 5-6 days the red light on the optimate come on so I unplug it and then plug it back in and after a day the green lights come on then 5-6 days later it goes back to red, is it time for a new battery or a new optimate.
