UK to Puerto Banus

Hi,
We did a similar run a few years ago from Brussels. You could do Chunnel to Calais, drive to Bruges and overnight, then down to Brussels have a mooch around there ( Grand place etc), then overnight around Paris or go directly via the Paris ring road to San Sebastián. Another more direct route would be Calais, Bordeaux, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Madrid, Grenada, Marbella, Puerto Banus. Grenada is only about 1.5 hours away from Marbella/ puerto Banus so you could drive past it and visit another day. It's a lovely drive overall with old cities, plains and mountains, you will definately enjoy it and if you can cruise your car along the water front at Puerto Banus I think it will get a crowd
It really depends what you want from the drive, there are plenty of other options it this is my starter for 10, I'm sure others will be along soon with other suggestions.

Our route was Bordeaux, Pau, Zaragoza, Madrid, Granada, Loja (home)
If you go this route you have a great drive up through the Pyrenees.
And look up Paradores de Siguenza as a place to stay overnight.
On the route back we went along the Spanish Coast and up into Andorra where we got a great room in a 5* hotel for peanuts as it was out of season - they are geared for winter skiing,

I'd stay in Marbella rather than Banus, it may have changed considerably in the 20 years since you've been. It has been a few years myself, but we used to a winter getaway every year to Marbella. If you want somewhere in between, the NH Alanda and Puente Romano are both recommended. Guadalpin in Marbella used to be good too, but I believe it has changed hands a few years ago.A few things I'd say I learned from my trip.
For you:
Plan 300-350 miles a day max. It doesn't sound much but its something I will stick to in future.
Make early starts and early finishes. Its lovely and cool early in the morning and you really feel it when the sun comes up.
Take sunscreen and hats and have spares because they go missing/get sweaty.
Drink often and stop regularly. We had ice cream stops to cool us down.
For the car:
If your car has Aircon make sure it is in good working order. You are going to need it in Spain.
Thoroughly service the car in May. Change the coil and ignition amp and put the known good ones in your spares. If you have these in your spares then swap them over in May to make sure they are OK. Both are susceptible to failure caused by heat.
Make sure your cooling system is in the best of health.
A t-shirt over each seat stops the seat being red hot when you return to it.
Watch your speed in roadworks in Spain. I have the receipt for a €200 on the spot fine !
Its probably worth posting your spares list so people can cast an eye over it for you.
