Pic Of The Week: E-Type And Lightning

Supersonic jet plus motoring icon equals lovely wallpaper, we reckon...

Today's POTW is surely something to get the small boy in every one of us dribbling and jumping up and down with excitement.

The oh-so-wonderful Jaguar E-Type and the frankly awesome English Electric Lightning have been brought together by our esteemed (and inspired) colleagues over at Classic & Sports Car magazine as part of a supplement to celebrate the Jag's 50th anniversary (and coincidentally the Lightning's half-century).

And if you think there's some sort of clever photographic tricky going on, well you're wrong - this is just man, camera, E-Type and 1500mph Cold War interceptor. Brilliant.

You can read more about this epic meeting in October's issue of C&SC, available now in all good newsagents (and probably some rubbish ones, too).

Oh and, if you don't like our choice of wallpaper, you can pop along to the Classic and Sports Car website and download their version (which is different - not better, just different) for some Jet 'n' classic car goodness...

Two of my favourites!! I've seen that particular Lightning run many a time. If you've never been to Bruntingthorpe to a Cold War Jets day, make sure you do before it gets too expensive to run these sort of things (or they run out of spares)

An easy 10!! and come on own up... who rated it less than 10!!!

How can anyone not rate this a 10?

It is inconceivable that this is not a 10. The 8.97 there at the moment is outrageous.

You know who you are, shame on you.

Don't much like the post-processing... and would have been better if the Lightning didn't have the airbrakes out!

Individually, they're two slightly disproportionate ugly ducklings, but together they make a spectacular picture.

Lovely.

I spent much of my childhood living on an air force base with these things all round (day and night).

"Loud" is an understatement :-)

it's a 10. Fantastic pair. I always remember watching the RAF deliver six lightnings to Cranfield which were decommissioned, but a millionaire bought them. 3 for spares 3 for flying.

My god they came in low over the fields for one last play....The noise....Epic.

If the Lightning were about to take off it would be worth a 10.

Love the e-type and the Lightning is my favourite miltary fast jet, brutally quick and tottally British,we wont see its like again.
I drive past the old English Electric factory in Preston every day on my way to work,it must of been great when in full flow.
8/10 for me though as it looks a bit over produced even though it isnt and the cheesily sunglassed Clarksonite in the E type cocks it all up!
