Fiesta ST prices & specs revealed

Ford finally puts a price on the head of its new fast Fiesta

The new Fiesta ST will cost £16,995 when it goes on sale in spring. That’s the news from blue oval HQ this morning, and it means the Fiesta looks set to be a bit of a hot hatch bargain, much like its bigger brother, the Focus ST.

New ST will hit 60 in 6.9sec
New ST will hit 60 in 6.9sec
That price pitches it below rivals like the Seat Ibiza Cupra and Mini Cooper S, both of which produce similar power and performance figures, while the more powerful Renault Clio RS and Peugeot 208 GTI are expected to cost considerably more. In fact, the ST will even undercut Skoda's Fabia vRS which, assuming it drives as well as we're expecting, could make it the best value small hot hatch on the market.

That’s not all, though: Ford has given us a little more detail on the first petrol turbo Fiesta since the somewhat frenetic RS Turbo of the early ’90s. We already knew that the new car’s 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine will produce 180hp and 177lb ft, and Ford now tells us that it’ll give the ST a 0-60 time of 6.9sec and a top speed of 136mph. What’s more, three-door enthusiasts will be happy to hear that that’ll be the only variant we’ll get over here – while there will be a five-door option, it’ll only be available across the pond.

Think I'll wait for the Clio. Why are they not matching the power from the rivals? Seems strange, the focus seems to lead the way on power levels and the fiesta never does. It's always lagging behind.

Wouldn't be surprised if Renault didn't start their own official tuning arm (Alpine tuned would be nice) especially as NISMO is now fettling the same lump in the Juke.

4bhp down on a MINI Cooper S, 0.1s quicker to 62 than a MINI Cooper S, and significantly cheaper than a MINI Cooper S.

It's also on par power wise with the Skoda Fabia vRS, and Polo GTi.

I'd day they've matched the power of their direct rivals.

Still looks like a trout but at least Ford realise that a small hot-hatch should really only have 3 doors...

^^This.

I was all set to dismiss the Fiesta ST as being too little, too late, compared with the Corsa VXR and Clio RS - but at this price, it really does make a very good case for itself. Mountune has already released an upgrade to take this engine up to 200hp for £995, so if you wanted something that rivalled a Clio RS or 208 GTI, you could do so for considerably less than either of those two look likely to cost. Or just leave it as-is and enjoy the standard 180hp - you'd pay more for the same sort of power in the SEAT, Polo or even the Fabia. Let's wait and see how it drives, but I've high hopes that it could be a really good little car.

i actually think that looks nicer than the new focus ST... a sneaky remap would make it nearly as quick as well.

The wheels are a bit boring but otherwise top of the class. Reasionable pricing (plus Ford don't mind haggling)some should see plenty on the roads.

This....and it looks worse (as to all new hot hatches IMHO).

How do any of these cars 'bring the game on' apart from using smaller (and hence less characterful) engines?

Must try harder.

+1, I can think of few things in life worse than making do with a mere (is that the right mere, Singlecoil?) 180hp in a Fiesta. Pulling on to an up hill dual carriageway will be a nightmare with such a small amount of power, some drivers will probably have to shift down to 4th.

There all models that have been out for a while. Models that are on the horizon have 200bhp. I'm not a horsepower freak, bhp figures aren't everything but I just feel like Ford could do more with it. Like I said, the focus seems to always lead not follow. I have a Cooper S lump so I'm not saying 180ish isn't bad, its just Ford seems to always hold back the Fiesta when it really could be more.

I am liking this car more and more, and at £16K is a bargain when you compare it to the Clio, Should easily remap to 220Bhp. biggrin

I love how so many people on here focus entirely on power figures as the important factor in car choices.

It must be sad living your life like a game of top trumps.

If it drives even slightly better than my 1.6 TDCi Titanium, then it'll be a good car...

The diesel is good, but it does run out of puff easily when pushing on... then again it can return 60mpg which is its main purpose in life biggrin

Because the market is driven by safety, low CO2 and high MPG these days - not just speed and performance.
