Pic Of The Week: Audi R18

If the Dark Side of the force ran a race team it would use these...

We generally do our best to respond to popular demand with POTW. So, after Tuesday's story about the new Audi R18 Le Mans challenger's test at Sebring precipitated a gaggle of calls for the car to be made the subject of pic of the week, that's just what we've done.

But instead of the rather unglamorous shots taken at Sebring (yes, the location is pretty exotic, but the photos don't really do it justice), we've gone for this stark but menacing studio shot, which should please the PH detail fiends no end.

The only thing we worry about is that it might seem a little scary when you're at your most delicate. So try not to spill your coffee over your keyboard when you turn your computer on first thing in the morning - which is exactly what happened to us...

It really is quite a menacing sight - you would certainly move out of the way pretty smartly if you were driving a GT2 Porsche and you saw this closing in on you down the Hunaudières straight...

Where is this car actually made and designed? Is it a UK made car from someone like Lola wearing a badge of convenience or is it designed and maunfactured by Audi in Germany. A quick google reveals little.

Would this thing lap any faster than an F1 car?

A fantastic looking machine - 10 x more striking than the "new" F1 cars launched recently (they all look the same to me).

Le Mans and sports car racing is proper motorsport in my opinion - F1 a bit of a circus for me

No it will be more than 10 seconds a lap slower at somewhere like Silverstone.

No doubt another all conquering winner straight out of the box. I suspect Peugeot et al will be in for a very hard time this season.

Nope, it is actually made by Audi Sport. Audi, Peuegot/Citroen and Porsche are the only companies I can think of off the top of my head with a genuine in-house motorsport division still.

I wonder what you would have to do to make one of these road legal. Other than rob all a countries gold reserve (not Britain's obviously because Brown sold it all in the recession silly tt!)

I did hear about someone having a Lotus LM car on the road. I believe it was registerd in some small pacific island where the owner had "friends".
