During the last 7 years of ownership of my Chim I have always had service and MOT carried out at same time by renowned TVR specialist. No problems or complaints with that and always sort of assumed that MOT needed to be carried out by a "sympathetic" MOT tester anyway. However, this year due to being semi retired and a bit skint, I have pushed the service back a couple of months until I can get the dosh sorted ( I have only done 900 miles since last service anyway). So, I took a chance on taking it to a local garage just a walk away from me for it's MOT. I have not used the garage before but they seemed like nice enough people. Car is a '96 400 with 92,000 miles so no spring chicken. I waited at garage whilst they did test ( which took over an hour). It was funny though when tester insisted he had to drive car in to the garage - he gets in and shuts the door - I tap on the window and ask him if he knows how to get out - he starts looking for a door handle and gives up - couldn't find window switch either so I just had to point to door opener knob and shout instructions! Anyhow, eventually reception guy comes to me and tells me it has passed - much relief. He also says that handbrake is crap and windscreen wipers will not wipe a dry screen but only if it's wet. I advised him that "they are all like that" and he said that's what they suspected so they passed it. To top it off the test was only £39.50 - happy days and "every little counts".
Always a nice moment when you pass, I share your happiness
My test is coming up in 4 weeks time, fortunately my tester is an old school hot rodder with a string of V8s under his belt and petrol in his veins. We mostly chat cars while a Corsa or Fiesta does the emissions thing on old Trevor's behalf, we then get the car in the air and have a sensible safety driven look around together sharing our thoughts on various points.
If he says have you seen your rear pads, he knows I'll sort it, equally I may spot something and we'll discuss it's relevance and the agreed course of action if any. I actually look forward to it, it's just nice to use a ramp rather than my pit, and to complete a shared inspection with someone who's skills and experience I respect.

All my other cars go to the guy down the road. The Chimaera would too if I didn’t already have Mat Smith looking after it.
My local guy’s daily is a Humber Hawk with a 5 litre Ford V8 in it. The supercharger for it sits on the shelf waiting for him to get a round tuit, whatever one of those is
His fun car is a Morris Minor....

Deceptive.....there’s a 3.9 RV8 up front, an LPG tank in the boot (as in the Humber too) and a nitrous cylinder in the car.
Turns out Nigel used to run 9s on the drag strip back in the day in his 7.something litre Vauxhall Victor and still enjoys a trip to the strip.
He was telling me all about the Tesla he saw there last summer......beat allcomers over the quarter mile.
