Hi all Me & Mrs N got married April this year looking to go on honeymoon next year.

She is proper set on Bali but I want some other ideas, we want sun, sea, beaches but also stuff to see and do, shes been looking at one of these packages where you do 2 days here, 2 days there etc. We will both be 36 at the time.

Mobility can be an issue for her so we wont be doing hikes to the tops of mountains etc.

Looking at September time but that could be changed, Want to spend approx £3,000 max for both of us. 1 or 2 weeks.

Can fly from Manc, Brum, Luton, Stansted, East Mids and all the other London airports.

Not looking to do "normal" places like Spain, Greece, Italy etc needs to be further afield. Bali is top of her list.

Theres loads more to Indonesia than just Bali, but you can use it as a good base.

Last year done a trip there:

- Flew to Medan (Sumatra) and done a jungle trek thing was good, there's varied levels of distance/ day trips/ multiple nights etc. You'll see orangutans and other monkeys and things.
- Then to Bali for few weeks, there's obviously beaches/ restaurants etc, went to Ubud which was okay (probably just for a night though)
Went over to Gili islands, and Nusa Penida, went snorkeling and seen Manta Rays and stuff and hen back to different parts of Bali

Also places other than Indonesia..

- New Zealand/ Blue mountains etc and still beaches and stuff, September getting warmer too.
- Canada/ banff/ lakes (though you quite obviously won't find any warm beaches)

Bali sounds exotic because it is far away, but remember, it is essentially Magaluf for the Aussies.

Oh, and spiders

I think the fact that you are newly wed and you come on here for advice means only one thing

You need to talk to the Missus or face a separation / divorce

Thailand, Mauritius, or the Maldives.

All excellent if you want a relaxing, private, beach-type holiday.

Eh? Maybe he's just come to PH to ask some other blokes for some inspiration based on their honeymoon destination experiences.

We did the garden route in South Africa on our honeymoon, flew in to Cape Town and out of Port Elizabeth. There are quite a few beaches around but we were mainly touring vineyards, looking at wildlife, walking, kayaking, etc. There's plenty of game reserves (more like massive farms/safari parks than proper safari but plenty of big animals) and vineyard tours you could do with mobility issues.

Trailfinders have plenty of experience tailoring things and generally have good deals.

Exactly this, she asked me if I had any ideas and I said I'd ask around.

Not sure that £3k is going to be enough for what has been suggested so far!

Firstly congratulations.

Worth popping into Kuoni and grabbing their brochures. They are fantastic and full of ideas and information on all parts of the world. i.e. weather climate, national holidays, exchange rates, what jabs you need, even how stable the government is etc...

From there if there is something you like you can try and book something similar yourselves.

If im honest with a £3000 budget almost half will go just on flights. Bali is extremely expensive.

We went to Madagascar & Mauritius. Incredible.

Best of luck!

I missed that.

For £3k I'd probably be looking at Sri Lanka or the Carribbean

We both fancy Canada.

I lived in NZ or a while, Timaru near Christchurch, we wanted to avoid NZ/OZ as I have family in OZ and extended family in NZ and wed just end up going to see them basically.

Yeh I suspected so, think well pop up to Keuoni and see what they suggest as an idea.

I think she found one of these "secret escape" deals that was about 3k but its a full on itinerary.

So we've done Bali with Secret Escapes and it was utterly superb - we went around £3.5k for just over 2 weeks with 4 distinct resorts/hotels/regions. We chose which activities appealed to us, and we had a free spa/massage treatment at each place. I'd not want to move any faster than 4 hotels in 2 weeks.

Some things to know -

1st, if you don't go near Kuta then you can ignore all the "Aussi Magaloof" stuff. We saw NOTHING like that, but then the Kuta area IS the "beach zone". We stayed in a jungle villa with a drop dead gorgeous pool. A1, A sea-side hotel that was nice but the sea impossible to go near (too rough and rocky) but the pool was epic, A beach hotel in the north with our own plung pool. Dolphin spotting with 100000000 screaming chinese that ruined the experience, and finally. an amazing villa with our own infinity pool looking out to sea.

We had a super time, but we rented a scooter at all the hotels so explored waterfalls, Ubud, etc etc.

You will get sick of/laugh at all the Aussies doing selfies and slow mo hair flicking in the water.

It's a brutally long flight - you are not far from Australia. Economy nearly killed us. She was at my throat by the time we landed, and she was rocking with near insanity on the return. Pay for premium if you can. It's TOO far for economy. 2 weeks is the minimum. Forget 1 week.

Mauritious is a good call.Look at the "Zilwa Attitude Resort" - bloody lovely. I'd not go AI if I went again mind you - but then we "broke out" of the resort to eat down the road often. Very popular with Honeymooners.

Otherwise, I'd say Thailand - it has everything, and beaches in spades From touristy to totally unspoilt paradise islands. We'll be back there in Dec. Far cheaper than Bali - far nearer, and has far more to offer then Bali.

Sept in TH is still in the rainy season but that doesn't mean its raining all the time. Its usually sunny and hot with the occasional biblical downpour, then dry again within an hour!

Bet it was, but if the OP takes his wife to China instead of Bali I reckon it could be a very short marriage :-)
