Does it not default to the rating of the tyres in that case? The maximum weight of the trailer (and load) being the total of the maximum rating of the tyres?

P.S. Captain - I'm Derby based also.

If no plate I think it’s done on maximum load of tyres?

So I ended up getting an unbraked trailer, saw a very nice 2 year old barely used Ifor Williams cage sided trailer with a nice long drop ramp tail that was too good to ignore, can take load of 500KG at a time, no way I will hit that with clearing the garden - if I like it enough I may end up keeping it after

Will look at booking B&E course instead

Passed my B+E yesterday, after doing a course over 2 days with Carl

4 minors and I had to take both shunts to get into the garage, but I got it in and got the result biggrin

Well done. Got mine next month, did a 2hr assessment last week and need a 6hr session including test. Hoping that I can get through at the first opportunity so I can finally swap my car!

Best of luck, sounds like you are/were a similar level to me... did 3 hours Sunday then around 6 yesterday including the test - reversing not my forte but I did squeak it in

Take your time is the only advise I will give, esp on the test

Thinking of swapping my X-Trail out now and going back to a Mercedes ML or getting a Nissan Pathfinder biggrin

I took 1 shunt on purpose even though i didn't fully need it. just thought it would burn a little more time in the car park and less out on test. biggrin

Interesting development relevant to the thread - I couldn't find a new thread started on this and I had this bookmarked and I couldn't think of a better place to post this

Following the recent government consultation, car drivers will be able to tow a trailer without a taking a test

This change will mean drivers who passed their car test after 1 January 1997 will be able to tow a trailer up to 3,500kg when the law is changed. This will be as soon as possible.

Drivers who passed their car test before 1 January 1997 can already tow without a car and trailer test, so are not affected by this change.

This will allow us to offer more lorry tests

We still encourage you to have training before towing a trailer to keep you safe.

I think that warrants a new thread in itself. It's a major announcement and change!

I’ve started a new thread - so technically I’m now double posting

The mod team can decide - remove all traces in this thread or kill the new one and leave it here - my logic was this was a really useful thread and it was pinned

Excellent - I couldn’t find it so have deleted the one I started away from this thread

That’ll confuse the mods as I also reported it hahaha

Most of the info in this thread will become obsolete in Autumn so perhaps it is time to un-sticky it ???
