You say that, but something must have motivated them to put yellow lines there, and once there, allowing a vehicle to still obstuct the road would defeat their purpose.

Surely the double yellows are to prevent the road being obstructed, so if you (or a visitor rolleyes ) park on the single white line at your drive then the vehicle is still going to be obstructing the road?

Well I appreciate the rolled eyes, but you neither know my garage arrangement nor the road in question. So to assist in your understanding:

Mine is the garage on the right with the white line outside it. Google StreetView managed to snap the picture before the ever zealous and car hating Brighton & Hove council painted the unrequired double yellow lines.
It's well within 10 metres of a junction so you could risk falling foul of RTA 1988 Section 22. Not an LA matter (not listed in the civil Contravention Codes) so they would need to involve the police if they wanted to make an issue of it.

What junction is within 10 metres?

The one to the main road is a good 30 metres away and there is no junction in front. The road merely sweeps around to the left into the rear entrance to a school and the bit on the right is an unrestricted parking area (albeit with only room for 2 cars). There are no junction marking or indications otherwise.

See I did wonder if this was such a simple question wink

Could they have double yellowed it to keep it clear for emergency access?

Well I've recently paid a parking fine for one of my guys who was parked in exactly that scenario, at a customers house and at his request while spraying his car. Council fine for parking on a dropped kerb.

May not be remotely relevant but thought I'd mention it
That was for parking on the kerb not next to it I would guess, it happen outside my parents house, I can park over the driveway dropped kerb but a wheel on the kerb and i get a ticket, little camera car driving around all day, so you don't even dare do it for a minute.
