Don't pcso's often have second jobs too?
Perhaps that was where some confusion crept in.

Are you confusing PCSOs with Specials?

I'd have thought that any second job a PCSO may have would have to be authorised by their police employer?

I can't say I've heard of PCSOs having second jobs, but have known several firemen to and a former colleague was a retained fireman, which seems comparable to the Special Constabulary roles but with pay.

Doubt it, if full time.

Fair enough.
Must be getting my wires crossed somewhere.

No- they'd defended him on 26 previous charges and he was presumably either not tried due to lack of evidence or found not guilty on evidence presented.

Presumption of guilt is a bit naughty.

Ok fair enough, I find it strange for someone to say that as well if not true. cheers
People say things that aren't true all the time. They could be listening to inaccurate workplace gossip, they could be exagerating to try and make a point or they could be deliberately lying in order to manipulate peoples opinions.

I worked with a bloke who constantly lied about his salary to the point where several people left because they thought they were being short changed.

I just don't get why anyone would need to discuss their salary with anyone. It can only be bragging, which makes me think 'overpaid c*nt' as opposed to just 'c*nt'.

Your hypocrisy is utterly staggering.

It seems everyone is innocent until proven guilty, unless the are Police Officer in the strange world you inhabit.

there are scenarios where PCOS working significant amounts of unsocial hours earn more than young in service PCs ( as Police Officer TaCoS don't currently include any form of shift allowance meaning a 9-5 desk jockey gets the same pay as someone wrestling the drunks orn rotating response shifdts )

Checked some force websites - most PCSO's dont seem work after midnight. No pay rises or prospects of pay rises in the near future. No rank or promotion structure in place either. Many get bored and jack in or join the regulars

because it's an 'assistant grade' by definition , they will be managed, directed and accountability taken for tasking and the overall work by Sworn Officers ...

same reason why there is no 'promotion' or rank structure for assitant grades in health professions becasue the accountability and direction comes from the 'real' thing ...

Thanks to the police and for all the work they do etc, but when you look at the vast majority of guys wandering about Afghanistan with 5 years service earning miles less than a newly qualified copper working in London, it does make me begin to question the validity of some of the complaints regarding pay and conditions advanced by members of the police service.

It's a dreadful job, one that I probably wouldn't do for all the tea in China, but, comparatively, the financial rewards are extremely favourable.

You're certainly not going to starve to death on thirty grand...

What a load or tosh pcso earns more than a sergeant!

Police pay isn't that bad, friends father in law is a an inspector and is looking to retire on a £30k a year pension and take a civilain role at 30k and will be earning £60k! Plus. Just spent 40k on his wife's birthday.

It's our armed forces who get two fifths of sod all and then when they shoot the enemy 10 years behind bars as one royal marine found, shame of it.

Dont think there's been any complaints over Police pay -its better now that it was years ago. Dont forget that Inspector paid 11% of his salary - latterly 14% for his pension - didn't come free

Check out The Winsor Report - that's all about to change.

Expect it to be rather difficult to get to the top of the payscale (regular exams, etc).

Deployability premiums (Winsor's "x factor"), etc. etc. Some PCs at the top of the pay scale look set for a £5k hit.

PCSO's around here(midlands) start at 18k ish and after a period of time can get their pay upto 22k. With overtime they could realistically get 26k but not much more than that.

I know this because I looked into doing it. my understanding is a sergeant is on a lot more.

it is important to consider the the whole package regular military personnel get the following which Police Officers and NHS staff don;t

- Subsidised single or family accomodation,
- free 'Gym membership' , 'classes' and access to personal trainers
- 'private' Primary Care and Dental Care
- Operational Allowance on certain taskings which effectively refunds income tax and NI
- free food when in 'field conditions' are in place / embarked on one of the war canoes or when in certain taskings / roles or when 'on duty' on Guard / Orderly / On call driver duties
- a generous advance of pay system
- commuting expenses
- 'Continutiy of Education Allowance '

prior to pay as you eat - the messing charge covered more than 3 squares a day if you chose to take them , and was taken from pay at source ( ditto accom charges) leaving the pay that hits the bank account of the squaddie potentially entirely disposable income ...

Police used to get most of the above at one time.
Shouldnt be comparing Police with army - TOTALLY different jobs -just have a uniform in common and thats about it
