If you're browsing Pistonheads 5 hours after New Years Eve you deserve to be fined. Not for browsing but for being a poor human. Is this something you consider fun ? Go for a walk, make the missus breakfast in bed, check the kids..... But on Pistonheads ? And you wonder why you're writing ranty posts when the rest of us have a hangover or are welcoming in the new year ? Did you post on Facebook after that ?
Etc etc ....
Not defending the rant but, not all of us have wife/kids, nor even wife, not all of us want to drink ourselves stupid and then not be blue to think straight all the next day. Not all of us even give a stuff about "welcoming in the new year", I've no issue with those who do but it should not be used as insult if people don't. Etc etc ....
Not taking part in the annual "drink too much and fall into a gutter" festival does not make anyone a "poor human".

We have just had Euro Car Parks install their CCTV system in our local Sailsburys, which has the max 3 hour stay, so I wrote to clarify the no return within 2 hours.
My question was "If, as I usually do, drive in, drop the wife off with the shopping baskets from the boot of my car and drive out, if I return in an hour to pick her up, does this violate the no return within 2 hour rule.
You guessed it, they said YES.
I can't even return to the petrol station as I have to pass the same camera, I am in the throws of penning my anger to Sainsburys head office.

Absolute genius. Maybe it's time we all shopped at local shops and show these giants what a bunch of tts they really are.My question was "If, as I usually do, drive in, drop the wife off with the shopping baskets from the boot of my car and drive out, if I return in an hour to pick her up, does this violate the no return within 2 hour rule.

There must be loads of people that make repeat visits, such as taxis and the thick like me who can't remember half the things they need to buy the first time around.

I have also written to The British Car Association, who publish codes of practice to get their views on the dropping off scenario. There must be loads of people that make repeat visits, such as taxis and the thick like me who can't remember half the things they need to buy the first time around.
Looks like just another cash cow.
Viper, I would write to the manager of the supermarket, asking what will happen in your dropping off scenario. I wouldn't mention your previous correspondence with the PPC. I bet you some fresh air that he or she comes back and says of course you won't get a ticket if you drop off your wife then come back to collect within two hours. Then ask what they will do if they're wrong and you do get a ticket in those circumstances.

I just got one for entering my local BM store in the same way you are saying, I dropped the wife off and then went to tesco for petrol and then went straight back for her. ANPR must have picked me up entering and leaving twice within the limit. It's in the bin now and I will be ignoring everything they send

Ah you mean the company that puts up signs containing statements like this which are plainly absurd. My question was "If, as I usually do, drive in, drop the wife off with the shopping baskets from the boot of my car and drive out, if I return in an hour to pick her up, does this violate the no return within 2 hour rule.

Spotted the inconsistency yet? Can you post a pic of the one in your local Sainsburys?
The problem with ANPR is it cannot prove that you parked at all. As the PE found out at Fistral Beach in Newquay. As the DJ rather forcefully observed, driving round the car park looking for a space is not parking!
If I wish to go on a shopping expedition which consists of more than just going to the supermarket, then I prefer to go to an area where I can park my car for as long as it takes, and also where I don't have to cart a load of stuff a long distance to the car.
If such parking restrictions make this difficult then I prefer to go elsewhere.

Vipers. I think its if you STAY 3hrs THEN return within 2hrs.
My question in writing was clearly if I drop my wife off, drive out and return in less than 2 hours, would I infringe the no return within 2 hours, they said yes.Edited by hora on Tuesday 13th January 07:16
I have no problem with the intent to stop people parking and going off somewhere.

This is our one :-
It occurred to me the council here has a recycling plant within the car park, you know, those separate bins for glass, plastic, paper etc, letters gone off to them as well.
Inconsistency, 30 v 20 minutes?

A not massively dissimilar situation was when my wife went into town, was there for 30 mins and came back. I went an hour later and by chance took the same car, parked nearby where she did and got a council parking ticket for return within 2 hours. Only the car returned, not the person. I thought about contesting but it was a fair old time ago before the Internet forums like this so just paid the 50% rate. No idea if it's fair but they've not got a lot else to go on other than the reg.I have no problem with the intent to stop people parking and going off somewhere.

Slightly off topic, but why on earth does a 12 year old need a child space? This is our one :-

Theres no need to get a trolley and put them in it.
I stopped using them as soon as my kids could walk and get in out of their seats by themselves while I just held the door open.

Interesting, you wouldn't have a child seat in the car for an 11 year old, but when Mr. Brain Dead car attendant sees your car in a mother and child slot without a child seat zap, ticket, the mind boggles. And this was the response by email to my question on dropping the misses off etc.

There should be no issues providing you do not overstay - we always suggest to Sainsbury's customers to do what you usually do and there should be no issue
There is a grace period for vehicles to arrive read the signage and depart
My bold. Clear as mud.

Having seen that email Vipers, is there a chance you're being a tad paranoid here? By all means query with them what the period of grace is, however it sounds like it's designed to cover exactly the kind of scenario you've laid out, dropping off and picking up. Otherwise, for example, the PPC would be forever wasting money chasing taxi drivers or those who turn into the car park and leave right away.
I appreciate many are (sometimes with justification) sceptical regards the methods and thinking of PPCs, yet here I see no evidence you're going to fall foul of the ANPR (in fact, from the email above, quite the opposite).
Let us know how you get on, but if it was me I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about problems that as of yet haven't surfaced.

"Hello, is that the Sainsbury's manager?"
Yes, how can I help?
"Hello, I popped in to your store to pick up some odds and ends a short while ago, but now my wife thinks that we should do a full shop. Unfortunately we can't come back to your store because of the 2 hour rule. I was wondering if you could tell me where the nearest large supermarket is."
