Has anyone established why these have been installed yet?

I noticed two Eastbound on the M62, before the M621 turn of, and one Westbound, just after the turn of between the two M621 junctions. They are only really visible form the opposite direction.

All the gantries had a full set of the normal cameras above each lane already. So, whats the point, target speeding when no reduced limit is in force? I thought the old cams could do that if they decided?

Are they replacing the old cams which were easy to see, so they raise more money? Dont forget, these are not about reducing accidents, these manage moterways are about causing congestion, well, rolling it back up the road, so it appears to reduce congestion.

HADECS3 are the only speed enforcement cameras currently being installed on motorways, because the supply contract has expired for the earlier versions. So these cameras are being installed where they might have added more gantry cameras in the past.

I wouldn't say HADECS3 cameras are any easier or harder to spot than the older versions. In any case, if you are observant and note the camera signs before you get to a HADECS/HADECS3 site, you should spot them. If you have a radar detector, you won't get as much advanced warning with HADECS3 as the radar emissions are less.

Managed motorways are not about "rolling (congestion) back up the road". The complete opposite, in fact. Although I'm not exactly a fan of speed enforcement in general, I do think that there are some worthwhile benefits in the managed m'ways concept. Managed m'ways is also a lot more than just HADCES3 cameras and speed enforcement.
