At 10pm in a quiet Easter Sunday on the A1 .

My fault nobody made me do it but it burns ....

The car is a UK car but with a km speedo it has always had one manufacturer ran out of mph ones !

Is that worth a go or do I just take the 3 points on chin and move on ?

If you are guilty, then take it and move on. Having a dash that reads in KPH wouldn't get you off the hook in court.

I'm guessing you were caught by a camera as usually traffic police aren't interested in a transgression at that level unless there are other factors involved? However, unless you've already done a SAC within the last 3 years you should be able to attend one of those and at least avoid the points!

If by "have a go" you mean contest the NIP I doubt you'd get anywhere; you might if the transgression had fallen within the ACPO guidelines (so 78mph or less in a 70mph limit) but sadly I think you're in prosecution territory at 79mph....

'Not guilty, because I didn't really know what speed I was doing'

Well, you could give it a bash

Thank you.

I will await my sac then.

Do you get them in the area where you were caught or can you opt to take them nearer to home ?

I think you can take it where you live.
Its worth it to avoid the points.
Go along with an open mind, see how many questions you can answer correctly.

You might even learn a few useful things, like the speed at which you will hit a child if you brake from 36mph, when you would have stopped in time from 30 mph.
No, the answer is not 6 mph.

I learnt some useful things on mine (37 in a 30), so much so i did another one the following day......

......at Cadwell Park

And so it should . They were never designed to be used for this bullst.

You can guess why they are, however.

Stuff the speed, more importantly which car were you in? The "murci, 550, ghibli cup" or one of the "mercs", or was it the "Detomaso" ?

Not sure how a UK supplied car can be legally put on the road without a mph speedo, type approval and/or Motor Vehicles (Con & Use) Regs, and all that.

Can you post up a redacted copy of the NIP ?

Depends on where you got caught. Dorset you can only do them in Dorset, I think other forces you can do them elsewhere.

Yes it was Great Ponton heading south.

It was the last rhd Ghibli cup, but not the last Ghibli, I can't see why somebody would change the speedo to km.

They are average speed cameras, bright yellow posts etc, and all the rest of the traffic will have been doing 68 mph or less. Have to ask what you were thinking if it was in that area.

I doubt the speed would have been 79mph all the way through the zone. 100mph in and 60 mph out just to make sure...oh no! Average 79mph, must try harder.

OP now knows speed limits are not just for busy times on the road.

That's no good to the OP - He's only got a kph speedometer! wink

(BTW OP: If you sit on 110kph then you're only going 68.3508mph )

Have you owned the car from new? - It sounds like a personal import from somewhere such as Hong Kong/Japan/Australia etc., etc., to Me.
