Hi,

Just thought I would try here. I am after a nice E46 M3 convertible, I am a mature (private) buyer, based in West Midlands. The E46 M3 has always been on my radar and now is the time to spend the hard earned and get one!

To save anyone's time - this is the type of car I am after:

E46 M3
Manual g/box
Low - Lowishmiles
Good service history
Not too bothered about colour (although one or two are borderline?)
A boot floor check or concern "done".

Excellent money paid for the right car (I know how much they are worth and will pay a fair price) - but no silly emails please, let's be sensible people!

Many thanks

Interesting, the E46 M3 dhc (manual) is a car I've been considering as a more family oriented car than the TVR (we can't all get into that).
Ideally Imola red or a blue but there never seems to be any up for sale within sensible travelling distance.

(The same with the R129 SL500 Merc which also a possibility until I accepted that the rear seats we no use for an 11 year old).

I think you just cannot ignore the "right" car....therefore you must travel?

If one comes up (from this post) - I personally would travel far and wide......

I have had a few TVRs, and now own an M3 as a fun car. I think its similar in many ways to a TVR. Similar power, similar feel on the road. But much better handling and practicality. I'm absolutely loving my M3.

Good luck !

Shouldn't say this on a BMW M3 Forum, but I'm concerned I just wouldn't see the M3 in the same light as the TVR.
There's a certain, difficult to describe, charisma with the TVR, I'm on my four and they get into your blood.
That said I had an E30 M3 Cecotto many years ago (should have kept it) so there's M series in me somewhere too.

OP, if you're on Facebook, join the 'M3 mental' group, and it's sister 'for sale' group.

It's a lot better than it sounds. There are a few well cared for cars that come up for sale on there.

Two completely different cars though. I have looked at several TVR Griff's - lovely, but they are a TVR.

I just think for me (at my age-tthe time in my life) an E46 M3 Convertible will prove to be better car? However if I had unlimited funds - yep I would have the two.

Just hoping a suitable M3 comes along???

Hi,

I have a manual Avus Blue Individual convertible, with all the toys Sat Nav / Heated seats / Harmon Kardon, Lotus white leather etc.

Its had the boot floor done by Redish / Vanos refurbished and shims checked / propshaft bearing and guibo / polybushed rear end / steering coupler / also new roof trim flaps ( these are nearly always missing ) and lots of history.

Paint is good for year & mileage (2002 with 132k ) with no rust. roof doesn't leak but could do with re-dying ( renovo ) diff doesn't whine but does have the usual low speed clunkyness of most m3's .... fine when warm and at higher revs.

What sort of money are you looking to pay ?

Hi, sounds nice, white leather not the best as a family car, you've had it a while which is good news, mileage a tad high but no more than many others.
Main thing is, you are in Cornwall and I'm Durham/Yorkshire area so not exactly on your doorstep.
Thank
Tony

Hi Tony,

No problem, I've used daily for 3 years and the leathers a doddle to keep clean.

Hope you find a good one, and ensure the boot floor has been done, if it hasn't then it's a certainty that it will need it eventually.

For me I wouldn't let the miles worry me. I've seen a number of rough low milers. Remember that the youngest example will now be 11 years old with the oldest being 16 years old now.

Hi,

There's a big perception by many E46 M3 owners that these cars will become 'E30 M3' like in their asking and actual selling prices in the next 1-2, 3-5. 7-10 and 10-15+ years time. That 'might' well turn out to be the case so, it'd make this a good 'investment' !

Depends really on what any potential buyer's thoughts are to if indeed E46 M3's will go up significantly .. or not. If they don't, expect to see multiple asking price drops of this car until it either sells or the owner decides to hold onto it in case E46 M3's become £30K by the end of the year (as predicted by one owner or enthusiast recently!)

Cheers, Dennis!

I've just bought one for the summer - manual , convertible . It cost me almost exactly the same as 18 months depreciation on my recently sold f10 m5 .
