Hi All,

Im hoping someone on here can help me save a big part of my wedding and keep my bride to be happy too!

We have just found out today that the DB5 we had booked for our wedding car on 28th July this year wont be available now due to mechanical problems. It was all booked and paid for.......we are absolutely gutted!!! frown

There does not seem to be any in our area to enquire about and as a true petrol head I had my heart set on this or a DB4 or DB6 from that era.

Can anyone help or point me in the direction of someone that can? The wedding is at 1pm on Friday 28th July 2017 in a lovely country village near Wolverhampton (West Mids) with the reception only 4 miles away and a ten minute drive.

I would be so grateful if anyone has any suggestions! Thanks in advance......Tom.

We are the poor Aston Martin owners on this forum.
DB4, DB5 and DB6 cars are out of our league these days.

Most of the owners of those models, belong to the Aston Martin Owners Club (AMOC).
You could try contacting that club.
They did have an active forum, but recently their website was 'greatly improved' by a software company. There have since been reports that the forum no longer works, but you could try to post a message.

My own son contacted a Morgan dealer, who kindly provided a wedding car last year. I know, it is not the same, but just a suggestion in case you are stuck.

He was not borrowing my Aston Martin - there have been bad omens.

Well I am a DB4 owner and not a member of AMOC as I think it is a bit pricey! I would love to help but am in Sussex and think logistically it may be a bit too complicated. But keep us in touch with how you get on more locally and I am sure something will happen to make it all work out..

p.s. edit to say that I think the modern Astons cost a whole load more to run than the proper DB's... electrical gremlins, clutches, tyres etc etc...

Thanks for your reply guys. I really hope I can get something arranged.....I would consider a newer Aston but had my heart set on a classic. I will try the owners club and see if they can help.......fingers crossed or we will be going in my Lotus Exige which is not what my good lady had in mind!!!

I am also a DB4 owner (and not on the AMOC forum) but also located in the wrong end of the country. My car was used for a friends wedding a couple of years back and they are still together so that must be a good omen for using an old Aston. I would however go for a DB6 as they have more room in the back.

Happy hunting and good luck.

Thanks for the advice, glad they are still together too! Can I ask though....is the back of a DB4 similar proportions to that of a DB5? We viewed the DB5 (that has now let us down!) and thought in terms of room it would be ok. Reason I ask is I may have a lead for a local DB4.

As always with old Astons, a simple question can often lead to a more complicated answer:

The DB5 is a bit less than 10 cm longer than the DB4 with most of that extra space attributed to the rear seat and bootspace (and a bit more headroom), so "yes" is the answer. However, if you find a late (Series V) DB4 from 1962 it has the longer body of the DB5 - but still the lower roofline.

It is not a comfortable fit in the back of a DB4 - a DB6 is much more roomy and there are more of them so they will be easier to find if you really want an Aston for the big day.

I have a Series 5 DB4 and it is the same length as a DB5. But getting in and out of the back is not easy, especially for a bride in full gear. Decorous, it will not be!

This topic appears regularly on the AMOC forum, of which I'm no longer a member, but the request is very rarely met I think. Sadly I suspect the risks outweigh the benefits to a private owner. I'm guessing the DB5 would have come from a specialist company, and it must be significantly damaged if its use can be cancelled 3 months out

OP, it may be time for Plan B

Tom - isn't this the weekend of the Silverstone Classic, not a million miles away and loads of Astons descending on the event and probably staying locally the night before, worth speaking with AMOC HQ to see if they know of anyone attending that might be persuaded to arrive early! Modern Astons would deffo substitute. Mike
