The definition of a CD10 driving offence is contained within Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and said to be “those who drive a motor vehicle on a road in a manner that falls below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver” or “those who drive without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or place”.
With a definition such as this open to interpretation, Sheriff Gordon once described ‘Careless Driving’ as “Awful driving” while the more serious offence of ‘Dangerous Driving’ said to be ”Bloody awful driving”.

thrifty car rental to the rescue ... turns out they take fools like me with 9 points .. so slightly dearer but can have a little trip up in scotland this week after all (fly drive) to skye
funny went to france and they didn't care too much about the points .guess overseas they don't see the electronic record.
yours driving/riding carefully to avoid any more

It all depends on who is underwriting the self-drive hire policy. Most do impose a 6pt limit, however if the hire company are willing to speak to their broker then each case can be taken on it's merits - I've supplied rental vehicles to people with 11 points in the past, although they have had to leave a £1000 deposit, and are not eligible for any reduction of excess.

"most" don't impose a 6 point limit, and nor are "most" insured in the traditional sense.
They self insure, so don't have brokers that impose underwriting criteria on them.
They are only self insured for their own asset value, but not for third party risk, hence why the broker dictates the level of points for any hirer. They self insure, so don't have brokers that impose underwriting criteria on them.
The potential third party risk is too great for even the largest of rental companies to absorb, such as ERAC who insured the vehicle used in this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Westminster_att...

CD10 is "without due care" AIUI. I reckon if any one of us here ran up the backside of someone, got an unsympathetic copper and a madge on a bad day you might see CD10.The blind muppet who nearly put me in a box as a result of a moment's inattention got a ban for "without due care" so it's not as unlikely as you might think.
