Hi

Just home from a 7 day 2500 mile road trip around France.

I managed to trigger two separate fixed cameras on my travels. One was a 90kph zone and I was doing about 99kph and the other one was a 110kph zone and I was doing approx 120kph. With the new laws in place for the French authorities being able to prosecute UK drivers is it likely that I will receive a fine in the post for these two relatively minor offenses? And more importantly am I likely to receive penalty points on my UK license for offenses in France?

Thanks.

You sound pretty certain, so I'll buy that.

Sounds like a fair enough deal to me.

You don't mind paying to speed?
At those levels you can do the same here... speed awareness course, then three more goes in three years, then you get another chance at a course.

No, I don't mind paying a small fine for a minor offense.

I don't fully understand the rest of your post.

Will the French authorities get your details from the DVLA? It will be interesting to see if they make use of the new laws requiring the UK to provide this information. Let us know!

They have always been able to get your details, but enforcing the fine I think is still a grey area as the UK did not agree to the EU sign up of inter border fine enforcement.

If thats changed, it has only changed VERY recently.

Im 99% sure that you can still just throw it in the bin but obviously Im no international lawyer and this is only my personal opinion....

Fine no points, I live in Germany (resident) so they have all my detail / info, yet they have no way of assigning points to your license.

I've been caught 4 or 5 times.

No more blasts back from the Monaco GP on the Sunday evening then...

I know using a speed camera detector or any type of app to show where the cameras are was illegal. Never actually turned mine off though so it double pinged on the very few fixed cameras on route.

I was flashed by two speed cameras last year going to Le Mans. I've received nothing through the post and have returned to France twice (by car) since then...Nothing.

I may have been lucky...Not sure.

I thought that all changed in April now they can do our drivers with points in the EU but due to something to do with they we classify speeding we can't put points on non UK licences (eu being fair)

I've heard nothing as yet. Nearly six weeks on. But my speed was only just over the limit. Yours is a little higher so expect a fixed €90 fine but nothing more than that.

Ive driven all over Europe and I've very rarely seen British registrated cars going much faster than the posted speed limits. With Britains war on the motorist is was lovely to just drive a bit quicker.

I've been in France the last 2 weeks and think I have been flashed twice by static cams, definitely once by about 5kmh. Will have to see whether they fine for all breaches of if it's just high excess speed.

Interesting. My experience (caravans/motorhomes apart) is that a sizeable number of Brits take the speed limit signs as being in MPH for their starting point and then add some speed. A smaller (but not insignificant number) just bomb it.

I try always to be second fastest car on the road unless in my red Alfa when I tone it down considerably as it seems to be a flic magnet.
