I live in Bournemouth.

My Mazda 3 had a shock absorber replaced in April at Mazda Lynx Yeovil Franchise, near where I then worked (55miles away)

I now work in Durrington, Amesbury (50 miles from Mazda Yeovil)

June: the shock absorber has now failed (and been verified by a local non-mazda garage)

Mazda Yeovil won't authorize the shock's replacement without the car being taken to Mazda Yeovil - a 3 hr round trip + waiting time/ courtesy car & return trip & hassle + £fuel (which won't be compensated)

I've requested that the work be transferred to Mazda Poole/Christchurch (Franchises). Mazda Yeovil said Yeovil must verify the fault first (& probably insist on carry out work)

Mazda Lynx Yeovil webpage terms & conditions (FWIW..):
http://www.lynxgarage-mazda.co.uk/site/terms-condi...

Has anyone had a good result with getting one garage of a car-manufacturer to fix another garage of same manufacturer's faulty parts and cost, time, etc be covered?

Thanks

Enquiring with Mazda UK HQ now......

It is a little different, but a couple of years ago I bought an approved used VW T5 from a dealer in Edinburgh. After a couple of weeks it suffered an electrical fault not covered by warranty, but the dealer agreed to fix it. As I live in Newcastle, I took it into the local VW dealer and arranged for them to do the work. The Edinburgh dealer indicated that they thought the Newcastle dealer was trying to overcharge them, but after a bit of toing and froing it was resolved to my satisfaction. I would use the Edinburgh dealer again as they worked really hard to sort the problem.

Yes, with my wife's Toyota RAV 4.

Absolutely no problem at all, bought in one local dealer and had a warranty repair replaced at another nearer her work. Different chain too.

Never heard of that before, the whole idea of a manufacturers franchise is that they can all carry out work. What would happen if you broke down 1000s of miles away. Sounds rubbish to me. I live in Salisbury and bought my MX5 from Poole Mazda. I also have a Honda and have never experienced that with warranty work, regularly swap between Salisbury and Southampton Honda. Ring Mazda customer service and see if they can help

This is not warranty work on the car per say it's warranty on an item if I'm correct?

That being so I can't see them wanting to pay another garage to do the work, it's not really their fault you don't want a 3hr round trip.

Ignore if I'm wrong tho.

Thank you all for your time with some quite encouraging comments! For you all that have had success getting work transferred and covered, do you know if the garages were Main Dealers or Franchises?

It would be work undertaken on Mazda's standard parts-replacement guarantee. A well used car, that had it's shock absorber replaced, which is now leaking and 'knocking'.
You're probably right in that the garage won't compensate for associated costs and hassle in getting the car back in - although this isn't stated explicitly in any of the non existent t&cs on the receipt/invoice for the works or on Yeovil Mazda's website. My aim here is to get Mazda to cover the work, which ever of their Franchises carries out the work....the 'Franchise' set-up of Mazda's garages probably being the breaker here though. I have to try and still awaiting response from Mazda Customer Services....

Is your car covered under Mazda warranty? You should be able to go anywhere, but proving you haven't damaged it dropping it into a pothole will be another thing.

No Mazda warranty Byker, just standard parts guarantee on my 58 plate 3.
Indeed! I did go off road on site the other day!.....NO :-)

Called the local Mazda Christchurch shop just now and they were much more helpful (course they would be!....get the car in; Mazda or me would have to pay at some point, whatever happens. :-/ ) but they did say it would be covered .....so long as Mazda Yeovil fitted a **genuine Mazda part**.....I think this is why Yeovil's stern Service Manager was so adamant I have to get the car to Yeovil. If it turns out not genuine I'll be p*d off....
Booked @ Mazda Chch ...on July 13th (busy place) for verification of Genuineness and fault.......thread TBC

Good luck
I've had so many issues with the local mazda dealer but the next nearest is an hour away.

I've still got mazda full warranty for another year, after they handed me my car back absolutely shagged. Then when I complained saying it wasn't running right, "ah it's the camshaft sir, they all do that"
Whole new top end, turbo, brake servo, under warranty, although it was fine when it went in for the service.

Then they wanted £800 to replace the immobiliser as it had to be faulty as they couldn't program a key to it. I did it in two minutes with help from the owners club.

My initial complaint to the service manager was met with "If you don't like it you can go elsewhere".

I ended up escalating to Mazda UK, and the Franchise directors and Company secretary as the local branch weren't interested.

We might be talking about the same Garages! Both Christchurch and Yeovil haven't been decent CService atall so far, especially Yeovil

Are both dealers part of the same group if so it should be a simple process to authorise the work, if they are different businesses then this will be difficult and would explain why you are having trouble.

Hope you get a sensible resolution.

Both Mazda Franchises.....maybe only under the Mazda banner for car sales, not workshop side, but as I say, Mazda chch said it will be fine to do the work, as long as part fitted by Mazda Yeovil is a genuine Mazda part

Picked up my 15 plate Golf from VW Altringham in November. Next service Sept this year. Driving back to Hull tyre pressure light comes on. Had to leave evening rush hour motorway traffic, sorry car park, found an industrial estate, checked all the tyres. All Fine. Stupid me couldn't work out how to clear the light so a nervous drive home to Hull. Checked them again, all fine.

Cleared the light next morning, drove to petrol station to check them and 4 different tyre pressures! Played merry hell with them on the phone, just been serviced, next service due Sept, 41 point check etc., Grovelling apologies from service manager.

2 days later, oil change needed in 1000 miles message comes up! Oh F*ck! They've got me a shed! (company car, not seen but from a dealer company has used before)
Rang Altringham fuming.

"Oh, it can't have been programmed correctly, drop it in and we'll sort it out"
" I live in Hull, I'll take it to the local VW dealer"
"Can't do that Sir, has to come back to Altringham"
"Get me the dealer principal now or you can collect the car from Hull when I reject it!"
"We'll ring VW dealer xxx 2 miles away from you and they'll check it as soon as you want Sir"

Local dealer rang me 10 mins later. Car fully checked over, Oil checked and warning cleared 1hr later.

Car's been brilliant since. I love it. Last car was an A6, so throwing this little Golf around is great fun.

Spookily, VW dealer rang me earlier to see if everything was ok with the car, and would I be servicing it with them when it became due.

Genuine Mazda shock not fitted, as confirmed by Mazda HQ now mad HQ telling me only Mazda Yeovil will cover the remedial and I should return it there mad I'm telling Mazda HQ wtf do Mazda workshops not fit genuine parts as default...at least tell customers whether part is genuine or not without being asked and that it should be detailed on invoice/receipt at least.....otherwise what is the point in me choosing Mazda workshops over and above any other garage?!
....and why doesit have to be a genuine part to be covered?

It has to be a genuine part for Mazda to cover it. As it's not genuine, it's still covered but by the supplying garage only.

I think you're right to be aggrieved about them not using Mazda parts and should complain about that. Especially since it has caused you extra inconvenience.
